The frame is back from powder coating with a satin black finish. I've also been using a small toaster oven for some of the smaller parts using an Eastwood kit.

I'm almost finished with all the parts that need to be black. The bumpers turned out pretty nice and allowed me to practice my body work. I have a few small parts and the inner fenders remaining to finish up then it's on to the exterior paint!

I finished up the inner fenders. The scallop work I did around the intercooler plumbing smoothed out nice. Checkout my test panel for the exterior paint. I think I've learned enough to tackle the shiny stuff. Wish me luck!

My home body shop is in full swing now. I'm starting with some of the less visible bed parts before moving onto external panels. I also freshened up my DIY paint booth and added some actual paint booth floor covering you can vacuum that is suppose to help with cleanliness. The paint shop will have my color mixed this week. Hoping the next images I share are full of glossy 503!

I was able to get the first round of parts painted this weekend. It was stressful doing it for real this time, but I'm happy with the results. It's always great to see the first fresh paint photos in a build thread. I just need to do this many more times over.

I've also found you have to get a bit creative when you are sanding. In this case a modified yard stick does the trick.

Sorry for seeing this so late. I sprayed on Lizard Skin Thermal and Sound Barrier to the inside of the cab. I have read about great results with this product and thought I would give it a shot. The sound deadening properties are great, the cab has a solid sound to it when you knock on it, totally removes that tinny sound. Great product, should also help keep the interior cooler in the summer as well.

Thanks for the encouraging comments. I was able to finish off several parts by Raptor lining the back sides including the wheel tubs. Fenders are now on deck!

Thanks! It's base coat/clear coat. My recipe is 3 coats of base with 3 coats of clear. I had planned to sand and polish the clearcoat, but I'm not so sure now. I'm nervous about cutting through an edge and requiring a repaint just to knock down a little orange peel. I'm going to try things out on my test panel first to see how that goes. A voice inside my head keeps telling me to leave well enough alone.

Nice! It is turning out awesome. I would be on the fence as well, depending on how it turns out, but from the pictures it looks smooth enough. The darn edges will get you, where the paint is naturally thinner.

Another round of primer and block sanding on the fenders. I took the tailgate out into the sun to get a better look. I'm really happy with how it turned out. I'm still battling those voices in my head. If I can maintain the same level of quality on all the parts I'd probably pass on sanding and buffing. So the jury is still out, a lot more panels to go, but I'm having fun.

I started in on the doors while I wait for a little lower temperatures to paint the front fenders. I also took a swing at sanding and buffing my test panel. I used the 3M Perfect-It One Step system. It's not really one step, but I did 1500, 2000, 3000 and 8000 wet sanding followed by their "One Step" polish. The 3000 and 8000 step starts to bring the paint up to a shine so the polish step is really easy. As expected it took all the orange peel out. You have to really look hard and catch a light in the reflection to see a difference but it's there.

Why do you have to set the bar that high? Just kidding. Looks excellent, matches the theme of the build! Heat wave in Arkansas is keeping me spray gun shy. Humidity at 50% or greater.
