Re: Tips On Installing Upper Tailgate Trim

Old post but I am hoping someone sees it and replies. Do the side pieces left and right overlap the center piece or but flush up to the end. If they but up it looks like my trim wold need cut on the ends.

Freedom isn't safe, it requires you to take responsibility for your own life, your own safety, and your own success. It carries with it the possibility of failure and the understanding that you're working without out a safety net. If you give the state the responsibility for any of these you also give up the freedom that accompanies the responsibility.

Re: Tips On Installing Upper Tailgate Trim

They overlap. The fit of the trim i purchased, not Mar-K, fit realy bad. I beleive it was the fault of the center piece. I had to flair the soft side pieces slightly for them to fit over center part. My eye would go to it after completion but has since quieted down. Until this post i had forgot about it. The appearance is a 8 or 9 out of 10 from 3 feet away. Less so if you move close and study the contact point in the perspective of the photo.

Re: Tips On Installing Upper Tailgate Trim

I bought the three piece kit from LMC and it fits ok over the center but noticeable if you get close and eye it. I thought the notches on the end pieces were cut out to fit over the center as it didnt make sense any other way.

I jut put mine on this morning so I filled the end pieces in with 5 pieces of filler plastic on the inside and then used a semi-flexible adhesive glue to put them on with and then taped them in place until they set. I hope it holds up to the jarring and vibrations but I couldn't get myself to drill the holes...yet. I suppose 3m tape might have worked too but I only had a thicker roll of it and it would leave gaps.

Oh, the way the lip on the tailgate where the trim sits leaves the trim not 100 percent lines up with the trim on the lights but it is acceptable to me and again you kind of need to eyeball it. I hate doing projects like this myself becuse I always know where the flaws are and my eye will go righ to them. Anyone off the street probably wouldn't know different.

Re: Tips On Installing Upper Tailgate Trim

I also have the top three piece trim to install on my factory GMC tailgate, as well as the bottom piece.
I have decided to not drill the holes for the trim...but the center piece still has the two holes that will require holes.

Is there any pictures with measurements of where those two holes need to be placed?

Thank you!

Thumbs up Re: Tips On Installing Upper Tailgate Trim

I used all NOS GM tailgate trim and OEM clips and zero issues with the installation on my Blazer. No weird gaps and flush fitment with the pot metal chrome center piece.
