'83 High Sierra 2500 transmission
Can someone help me put an ID to the 4 speed in a parts truck I just picked up? I heard that it's not necessarily a Muncie SM465 in it. Haven't crawled under it to get a closer look. No VIN, or SPID in it. came with a 305/4spd. w/hydro clutch, semi floating 14 bolt rear. Thanks for any help.
EDIT: So I got a late night burst of energy since the temps dropped below 90 degrees here. Looks like a Muncie SM465 to me. I didn't realize '83s had juice clutches. I have no experience with them, is that good or bad? Last edited by MS66; 07-30-2025 at 01:11 AM. Reason: spooked it out myself |

Re: '83 High Sierra 2500 transmission
Does it still have the shifter with knob? If it had L it is a 465. the other 4 speed was the A833 overdrive which will have the OD on the knob. I would find it unlikely that that was put in a 3/4 ton.
