Front Disc Crossmember removal ?
This has probably been covered before but no "Search" feature so bear with me as I ask:
What am I looking at to remove the 5 lug disc, front crossmember from a '71 2wd 1/2 ton coil spring long bed. Engine and tranny are gone, 5 lug rear 3:08 axle now has a new life in Oklahoma, front clip is ready for the scrap heap. Radiator support is out and is useable if anyone needs such. My plan is to dis-connect the brake lines at the " T " fittings on the driver's side and leave the lines attached to the front discs. Then un-bolt as needed at the frame, looks like about 5-6 good sized bolts on each side. Will the springs stay compressed between the a-arms as I am not taking that apart? Would like to leave the cross-member as a "drop-in" unit if possible. After I have it out I will be selling it and the disc-drum prop. valve complete and resonable. Won't work on my 6-lug 4x4. Any ideas and suggestions appreciated, bear in mind do not have a cutting torch handy.

You're on the right track. The whole crossmember unbolts as one big heavy unit. I leave the wheels on them, so they kind of roll. The springs stay compressed, you're not messing with them.
Disconnect the pitman arm and the idler arm and leave the whole things as a unit. Don't forget to unbolt the shock absorbers, either from the frame at the top, or from the control arms at the bottom.

How is the frame? If it is trashed anyway, just cut the frame rails before and after the front crossmember assembly and roll it home

Thanks for the replies, thought I had "scoped" it out but never hurts to ask if not sure. Had not mentioned them but seen about the pitman and idler arm. Shocks are already gone, they were junk. Wish I had a cutting torch aka "blue tip wrench". Sure would make it easier but a good spray of rust buster and a good long cheater bar with a 1/2" breaker bar does wonders.
