Convex door mirror

I'd like to hear comments from anyone using this mirror.

Re: Convex door mirror

I used them on my 81 step side. It helped seeing more. I don't really like small mirrors on trucks, but I didn't want to add more holes, so when I redid the mirrors I used the covex on passenger side. It helped far as I wasconcerned.

Re: Convex door mirror

they are crap. I had one and attempted to use it for a few months and removed to go back to OEM. The optics were soo bad and distorted it really looked like a funhouse mirror. More specifically, the very center of the mirror was normal but as you got closer to the edges, it got all funky.

Well, that sucks. More than likely they all come from the same source, so it wouldn't matter who I bought it from.

For many years I've been dealing with not being able to adjust the passenger door mirror inwards enough. Thought maybe I had found a solution. Sometimes I wish I would have kept the 69 mirrors.

I may try a small stick-on convex mirror.

Re: Convex door mirror

there must be a factory (good quality) convex mirror similar in size that could be cut down slightly then glued in place.

I also suspect all suppliers carry the same one. 👎🏻

I see where the Autozone store near me has several to choose from. I'll go check them out after I get a new passenger side mirror. Mine is full or rust that falls out when I tap it on the workbench. I bought the pair in the early 90s, and the truck spent a lot of time sitting outside until 7-8 years ago. So that's a pretty good run!

A full size one with no issues like Casper42 described?

Re: Convex door mirror

I put one my passenger side hoping for an improvement of the original sport mirror design.
It has some over the standard design, but as you know even the sleek styled originals have a small limited viewing face.
You gain a little wider view.
Don’t expect a dramatic improvement though.
Good luck!

Re: Convex door mirror

I have a big convex mirror, [,,Mexican Radar''] on the Drivers Side frame of my West Coast Jr mirrors. About 6'' in diameter. It kills the 7 O'Clock blind spot, and I can sweep my left rear at a glance. Helps out a lot seeing advancing Semis on the freeway, since my '68 C/10 with 407K miles, isn't going to be playing bumper tag at 85 with everyone else. Got it at Checker Auto back in the day. Bigger mirrors are better at night. They gather more light.
Also I stuck a 3.5'' fish-eye mirror on the lower half of the Passenger Side West Coast Jr, so I can see how close the curb is, when parallel parking.

Looks great! Where did you buy it?

I already have a regular mirror headed my way. At least LMC has a decent return policy.

Re: Convex door mirror

That is the one from LMC.

I love the look of the sport mirrors. I drive the truck almost every day, and pull a 5x8 utility trailer regularly. I occasionally pull my 18' car hauler.

Re: Convex door mirror

to highlight the inferior quality - the mirror is relatively flat until it gets to the very edge. The reflection you see that's all wonky looking is a fence - those should be straight boards. this does not increase the field of view at all. Otherwise, the mirror looks beautiful.

Re: Convex door mirror

Looks to me that we must have mirrors from completely different sources, or at the very least, completely different batches.

Re: Convex door mirror

I'll see how well my new flat mirror works with a small stick-on convex mirror. If not so great, LMC has a pretty good return/exchange policy.

I stand corrected. I purchased my mirrors from The Truck and Car Shop in Orange CA., about 5 years ago. Still look like new. There may be a slight distortion on the upper left edge, but I don`t care that`s in the past. The view looks good to me and for $36, I`m happy with it.

Re: Convex door mirror

I added the small round convex mirror to mine works great for seeing blind spot while having big mirror for everything else. Think cost around 10 bucks.

That's the same LMC P/N that I almost bought. Looks like it would have worked OK.
