Re: Random Photos ‘You took’

.

Never ridden in the open like that but I've been up in several GA aircraft. What an experience that must be to fly a vintage biwing on a beautiful blue sky, white puffy cloud kind of day. Are those fuel lines?

Once long ago I was in the left seat, took off from Addison, flew to Denton and setup the approach for landing there but didn't take it all the way down. My buddy in the right seat got really nervous as it was his first time over there. We swapped seats in Denton as he was convinced it would be safer for us in an emergency if he was in the left one.

Another time he and I were in his Skylane 182 flying from Addison to OKC in the soup all the way from just after takeoff to breaking out of the clouds over the runway in OKC. Same thing on the way back. When I'm being honest, I recount that trip as rather scary. Totally at the mercy of the man at the controls constantly scanning the instrument panel and only occasionally doing anything else. At one point he got my attention and gestured out the windscreen to the 2 O'clock position. We were flying during the day and what he pointed out was a very large open cavern within the soup, a big slice of open space we were flying through between layers. How he noticed it is a mystery.

Later I came to understand it was very likely he was using the autopilot during our IMC flights. That didn't stop him from being very diligent as PIC to keep everybody safe though.

I haven't flown GA in quite some time. Your post has brought back some really happy memories of good times with a long lost good friend. Thank You.
