Who here is from Western South Dakota?

We took the plunge early last winter and moved from Bismarck ND to Spearfish SD.

We moved so we could be closer to our son, his wife and our grandson who was born almost a year ago now. He is an absolute delight. We babysit him a couple of days a week. We are missing our friends back in Bismarck but making new connections here.

We haven’t explored the Sothern hills much yet but travel up to Deadwood/Lead on occasion. I might even make it to the Cool Deadwood Nights show tomorrow. Perhaps next year, I’ll enter my truck in the show.

Anyone else from Western South Dakota?

This picture was taken tonight on the Spearfish Canyon. The other picture is from last Oct/Nov when I trailered my truck down.

The Black Hills can really nice in the next couple of months since the tourists will be mostly gone.
The winter months are hit and miss. Because of the mountains the snow fall amounts can be impressive. Maybe a bonus but not the chilly NW winter winds had you had Bismarck?

I’m forty miles to far east to be west river. The Black Hills in the winter is called the banana belt, can warm in a hurry. I think Spearfish has the record for a temp change caused by a chinook wind. Nice pickup

Last winter we found that Spearfish typically ran about 10-15 degrees warmer than Bismarck. Generally, it seems less windy here, but our new house is less protected. Yes, sometimes we wonder why we didn't go farther south!
