Side vent door - diagram?

Hey guys, I wanted to retain my driver's side vent on my AD - see relevant picture:

I have the door, but the hinge hardware was lost by my painter. I'd rather not have to go back and fill this panel and repaint. Are y'all aware of any parts diagrams for this vent? I don't even know what I need to make it whole again. Any help is appreciated.

Edit: pic is not of my truck; just for illustration.

Re: Side vent door - diagram?

Do you still have the piece on the inside aka hande inside?

My internet is a mess right now and I can't get to my photobucket where I have a couple of photos stashed. I can go out and get better photos of the one on my cab though and take it off to get photos as I need to remove it anyhow.

I do have the handle as well, but that's it. I just dealt with pulling all of my pictures off of photobucket myself, so I feel your pain.

Re: Side vent door - diagram?

i went out and the screws were too stuck to turn with a small screwdriver.
The door should have the bracket spot welded on the back of it.

Bracket being red arrow. The screws (orange arrow hold it to the piece that is permanent in the cab. The handle fastens to the top of the bracket with two screws (green arrow).

That's great! Thanks a lot.

The only thing I'm not connecting here is what those orange-arrow screws are attaching. It looks like there are two springs (and maybe another retaining bracket for the springs?) mounted using those screws. IT also looks like the non-threaded holes in the door bracket are used to hook the springs. I think that's what I'm missing.
My door has the bracket still spot-welded on, but there's nothing that lines up with those two screw-holes (orange arrows from your picture). Here's a shot:

I did find the handle, though!

Re: Side vent door - diagram?

I've got to spray mine with some PB Blaster to get it off.

Looks like this guy is trying to get rich off the AD truck guys all at one shot but the photos show you what you are missing. https://www.ebay.ie/itm/Chevrolet-tr...QAAOSwuhhc5cRz

If that doesn't come up here is the photo I snagged off it.

Thanks for that — I understand now. I doubt anyone makes that in the aftermarket, so I'll probably post a WTB in the marketplace. Surely someone has one laying around for less that $80...

Mr. 48,

It appears I don't have the internal part of the panel that this fastens to (the orange screws). Can you help me out with what's in there, so I can try to fab something up. I was thinking of a C channel type installation that attaches to the back of the door-hinge pocket.
My truck is in Epoxy primer, so I would prefer not to have to weld on the cab unless its a must.

Thanks Lee.

This picture makes it look like that bracket is welded to the lip of that channel. Can anyone confirm?

I will go to the place this evening where the cab I have is stored.

I will look for that and take pictures.

can't confirm, but it is probably how I would deal with it. A couple small welds right there, you can clean and paint them after and you can get to them in future to grind them off if the bracket needs to change. keep the weld small and cold, you might only damage the epoxy right in that area that is hidden.

A larger bracket to bolt on from door pillar is possible, but would need to be pretty beefy and then might flex the pillar rather than seal tightly

I think it is worth the effort, I love the cowl vent and I am sure would enjoy the side vent...but I have a 52

Good point. I wonder if I can mock it all up and somehow brace it or make some kind of jig to keep it in the right spot. It doesnt look like its exactly square with the hole. Although nothing really is on these cabs. Maybe I'm overthinking it.

Re: Side vent door - diagram?

The picture in post 10 of this thread looks like it has the part that should be welded to the truck still attached. Maybe the bolts were stuck so they just wiggled the entire door until the welds failed, maybe what happened to yours too.
Between post 10 and 15 it looks like about a 45 degree angle. My thought is this angle is not critical, hinge closes until the door door seals and from the look of it opens until the handle hits end of the slot. Vertical position has to match the vent door into opening, but that is not so hard to get right.

Couple cold tacks you can break loose if needed, test fit then weld it solid.

Do you have the hinge, springs and handle?

I don't have the Springs. I might have one of them.

Pictures as promised.

Probably no help because the weld bracket is missing.

I hope to have a chance to hunt for that Vent soon.

I do not think it has that bracket on it?

Hope this helps.
