Nope.....the only thing to modify was the hub opening.

I would like to get everything painted and back together to a rolling chassis by next week.. We'll see what the wife thinks of that though ...
I know stainless bolts are available in a stronger grade (like a grade 8 bolt) & can be used for engine/chassis stuff.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: Mikes 72 Build page

The brake lines are from inlinetube.com, I haven't installed them but they seem like a great product and a few members have used them with good results.. It was like 185.00 for the stainless hard lines and another 100.00 or so for the braided flex lines... So far i have over $3000.00 of new suspension and brake parts waiting on me to get the frame done ..

Re: Mikes 72 Build page

Well i finshed painting my frame this weekend, decided to go black, and started the build back up .. Lots of bolting things back together.. Still trying to decide what air configuration i wanna run. Anyone out there know how much space between the inner bedside and frame and how far the bedside drops below the frame? I cant decide how big of a tank(s) i wanna run. I'm thinking of starting witha 5 gal and a viair 480 and see how that works and adding another tank and compressor if i need... Anyway heres a couple pics of the progress...

Re: Mikes 72 Build page

Drilled my holes for the bulkheads on the front crossmember tonight, it looks good i think.. I have a ? for everyone, It seems like befor i pulled my front apart the front steeirng link was almost rubbing the front of the crossmember, there is actually a flat spot on the x member and link. But when i bolted everything back up its about 2" away. Can anyone verify how far away their stering link on a 72 is away? thanks in advance....

Re: Mikes 72 Build page

Well its been some time since i posted, and really since I've done anything to my 72.. But I'm back on it again. Truck has pretty much been sitting, I've acquired some build parts so now I'm back into it..

So new Items for the build are
23' GEN V LT1 and 10L90E trans out of Camaro
CVF accessories w/ PS pump
Dirty Dingo Glider LT1 mounts
Willwood front and rear disk brakes
No limit rack and pinion
New Painless wiring harness
Rear Fuel cell with pump
Aluminum radiator with fans

I have the brakes started and the engine/trans sitting in the frame. I'm having a little issue with the motor mounts so I'm searching for a solution there.. My truck has the clam shell mounts and perches w/ high hump tunnel but the brackets interfere with the DD gliders so im not able to move the engine forward. I believe i could get some different perches and mounts that would eliminate that problem but i haven't found the solution yet..

Research & correct GM valvetrain related issues now vs after possible damages might occur.

It's usually a phone setting. I save my images to my computer & upload from there to ensure they're the orientation desired.

Re: Mikes 72 Build page

So I just received my Speed Engineer headers, they look great! Nice and tight against the engine.. One more piece of the puzzle .

I also tried out some new motor mounts and perches, the mounts themself will work better but the perches do not fit quite right, like the bend that attaches to the frame is bent too much.. Anyone out there used any perches like these?

Re: Mikes 72 Build page

I'm using the Holley/Hooker stands and they work fine. Speedway makes a set that are the same.

Nice to see you back on it.

Definitely check up on VLOM delete. I work on a fleet that has a lot of genV engine failures. We're deleting every one that comes in with problems and are anticipating that will be 100% of them eventually..

Re: Mikes 72 Build page

Thanks I ordered a set to try out, should be here tomorrow. the DD Gliders use a motor mount/isolator with 3 attachment points. It looks like these perches use a mount with 4 attachment points, unless I can eliminate the DD brackets and bolt the mount directly to the block. I can't go forward too much more or the oil pan will hit the crossmember, maybe the Camaro pan has too big of a sump? Ill have to take some measurements and see if the engine is forward enough not to interfere with the firewall..

Re: Mikes 72 Build page

I finished the No Limit Rack install, well at least finished drilling the holes in the frame rails and getting the intermediate shaft through the frame rails.. Probably will make a filler to cover the bracket that bolted into the frame..

Re: Mikes 72 Build page

So the engine fits witht he cab on and the Camaro oil Pan!! That make me happy , now i can move the engine back a inch or so and lower it to get the trans pinion angle correct..
