I'm having issues with getting my outer rocker seated where its suppose to be. It needs to be dropped about 1/4", but the ledge of the inner rocker is keeping it from not being able to drop anymore. Anyone have any ideas or see anything wrong?

I put a new floor in years back as well as the lower pillar patches and cab corner - thats why the welds look a little rusted. I remember not being able to get the outer rocker on so instead of walking away from it I cut part of the inner rocker out - still couldn't get it so I switched to a different project on the cab.

Ive read through numerous threads and looked at pics, but haven't seen this issue. Today I tacked in the inner rocker and aligned the door basing it off the line above the door handle. Measured the gap around the rest of the door. Cab is sitting on dolly. Was debating on putting this cab back on frame and assembling fenders. Necessary?

I haven't ran all the bolts through the cab supports into the patch panels yet. My idea is to cut the whole length of the rocker where my thumb is and weld in a piece of metal 1/4" + or - to get the gap at the bottom of the door correct. The rocker at the cab corner is about 1/8"-1/4" too high.

All these parts are "key parts". I knew the rocker would need to be "massaged" a little to fit into place - just wasn't expecting this much. Wondering if im going about it in the wrong way.

I feel your pain. I was in the same spot you are. I just got it best I could, with the aftermarket parts I had. If you want it perfect, your idea of adding that seems like a lot of work, but probably would work. Looks good though, good luck on your build.

Post what you come up with

I brought the pics and outer rocker over to a body man I know to give him my idea. He recommended beating the inner rocker down a bit instead of messing with the outer rocker.

I ended up taking the inner back out since it was only tacked. I think Im going to try and massage the outer where it needs to go and then screw it in place and hang my door and see how it looks then modify the inner to fit. Im hoping that works.

Im not sure if I should put my cab on the frame and install radiator support so I can hang my fenders as well before fully welding it in. Or get it just as good with just aligning the door. I would think the fenders and such have quite a bit of adjustment to them no?

I’m no body man, but what your working on don’t have much to do with your fenders, doors more so with the bottom gap and shutting.
That’s what I did on mine, pulled the rocker down a bit to get the look right, best I could, then fixed the rest in the body work.
But I’m not building a show truck. But wanted it best to my ability

Ive watched a few of his videos. Its pretty good stuff. From what I saw from the videos, the fitment was alot better than what im dealing with. I might run through Matt's videos again and see if I notice something that might help me.

I was thinking of doing all this to make sure the gaps and the bottom of the rocker and fender all look good, but like i said, im guessing there should be enough room to adjust it all to look right.

I'm not trying to throw a monkey wrench into this whole thing, especially because I'm not a body man or a pro car builder.

But I always thought--professionally--rockers and floors and pillars were installed installed with precedence to the door. The door must be located first, then you can install the stuff around it.

No door? The installation can't be guaranteed.

I used Key Parts cab corners, deluxe front pillars, rear pillars, and rockers, along with the one-piece floor pan on my 1970 K20. I really had zero fitment issues with any of them. I did most of the installation with the doors on the truck to ensure good gaps and overall fitment.

I Know you,ve watched alot of Video,s, ive got a 66 C10 im dealing with,
Did see one of the videos where the guy cut the inner rocker/outer floor and welded it back
the angle where the outer rocker was sitting on the inner was wrong, actually think it went up instead of level or slightly down

how is the fit at the bottom of the inner/outer rocker, if the angle of the inner is off or stamped wrong, you might not have enough to spot weld to

only bonus messing with the inner is once you get it right and cleaned up , it shouldnt be seen

i agree with everyone that i wouldnt cut the outer

I had a similar problem when i did mine. If you look at that video pic the guy welded all those plug holes along where your door weatherstripping goes. I put some flat-topped body screws across there. Drew that outer rocker down it sits proud of the inner where it attaches. Get for 4 or 5 across there and see where you're at. Put the door back on before you weld er up see how it looks.

Another thing I never thought about was when I put my doors on for alignment, slip your door seal rubber on and check fitting before finishing. Mine seamed tight on the bottom after new rocker. You can get Honda civic seals if it s
tight. There’s videos about that to you can look up

Not clear to me. Are you saying the rocker needs to come down 1/4 inch to line up with the bottom of the door? or to line up with the cab corner?

I line the rocker to the door bottom and then massage the cab corner as necessary.

Another question. When did you buy the Key Parts rockers? I have a set I bought in 2024 that were VERY nice, but I had some from 2018-2019 that were not that great. A few from other brands in that era that were not very nice also. Had "cupping" in the door sill area, but I'm not sure if that brought the other edge up because I ended up not using them.

Here are a couple pictures where I used NOS rockers and Key parts cab corners(or part of them)...

But you have to get the door on and line the rocker with the door.

I did pretty much what you did.
Mine fit pretty well also, a little cutting and banging around.
I can see that if you put that new floor a 1/4 high, you’re going to have issues with the rest fitting. I took a lot of measurements and good bracing. But it’s not easy your first time I know that. It turned out good.

I aligned my door and took measurements from the bottom of the door to a point on the cab. Took my door off and fit the rocker in. My cab corner is already in since I matched it to the body line of the door. The cab corner sits about 1/8"-1/4" lower than the rocker. When I measure from the rocker to the line I drew on the cab from where my door bottom is, its the same measurement - in order to get a gap under the door and for it to line up with my cab corner I need the rocker to go down 1/4". The lip of the inner rocker won't let the outer rocker move down anymore. Not sure if that makes any sense.

I bought all these parts the same time as I bought my floor (2018 I believe).

Once I get my rocker lined up where I think it needs to go I'll screw it in and then hang my door again to verfiy. I dont have door seals yet. Is that necessary to have before I weld it on in? Ive heard Honda seals work perfect. What's everyone using?

I can post more pics for anyone if need be. Appreciate all the help so far.

No. Before paint
I personally couldn’t get my gap right after I did full floor and everything else. Mine was tight too. I pulled/bent it down to get my gap then put some self tappers to hold it then did a few cuts to get it fight to the rest if that make sense
I was told if rocker is in right that top should be level or flat, I for some reason couldn’t get that ,I had to bend down that 1/4 or so

That is really the best way I have found to do it. It puts the seam in an area that won't normally be seen.

Thanks guys. I just wish I knew why I had to move it down that much. I put this floor in years ago - I remember taking measurements before removing old floor. It all looked good. Unless like mentioned earlier - could be a bad batch of outer rockers? Not sure.

Aligning the bottom door gap is one thing.
I'm thinking that you might end up with a clearance issue with the bottom of the door rubbing on the top of the rocker.
I've seen that quite a few times.
You open the door and the paint is scraped off the top of the rocker where your foot might touch.
