Hood hinges and springs hardware? Can I find local?
Looking for the hardware to mount:
Hood springs to hood: Hood springs to cab: Hood Hinge to hood: I see that LMC has them, but Im not exactly sure what I'm looking at or what I need and I always like to shop local if I can. Can I find these at ACE? 1949 3100 |

the 6 bolts that go into the hood have a shoulder you probably wont find at the hardware store. the bolts that go into cowl are just bolts

Any idea on size of those cowl bolts? I rhino-lined my fire wall, and I can't get a tap to start without being aggressive. I started thinking maybe they were fine thread. |

Re: Hood hinges and springs hardware? Can I find local?
Well if you are up for a little road trip for a day and have a weekday to do it on you have three major Truck trinket vendors within a half hour of each other in the Kansas city area 200 miles from you. LMC, Jim Carter and Classic parts.
That might just be worth taking a day off, telling the significant other or a buddy "Lets go for a ride" and figure on stopping for some Kansas City Barbecue in there somewhere. I'm with you in that some times you just want to look at and feel things when it comes to parts and it helps to be able to ask the parts person about what you actually need face to face. Just for grins I added a loop that Nvrdone or I could do that takes me 462 miles and adds about 15 for him because he lives a few miles off the main path that would take one of us over Chinook pass to Wess at Classic heartbeat SE of Olympia and then to Chevs of the 40's in Vancouver and back to the Dalles or Biggs junction on the Oregon side and back up over Satus pass on 97 home. It makes for a lot longer day than running from Wichata to Kansas city and back though as there are two mountain passes with 2 lane roads to go over. The good is plenty of great places for Breakfast and dinner over the route.

Done that trip a few times since we moved to Yakima. Mid october we are going to Sacramento and will include a stop at Chevys of the 40's. ON the way back we will stop at Classic Heart Beat.
Allways look forward to a road trip.

Over and back to Chevs of the 40's isn't bad but my wife always wants to stop at the outlet mall at Troutdale.

Re: Hood hinges and springs hardware? Can I find local?
We used to have a place here in Wichita, but COVID killed him off ( the business, not the man, I hope).
I have to be in Kansas City for a conference, but it isn't until November. My LMC cart has about $600 worth of stuff in it. You know how it is: you just like to like make a little progress when you can. I found some 1.25" long bolts with a shoulder. I may have to cut the thread part down. We're gonna see if they work. Worth the five bucks at ace to give it a try. |

Re: Hood hinges and springs hardware? Can I find local?
Here are the hood hinge bolts with a shoulder on them that have to be used no matter where you get them from.
Plus the bolts that hold the hood latch down. That says GMC so I need to go out in the shed and look at one of the hood latches I have with the proper Chevy bolts and see what is up and then look at he hood spring hinges and see what bolts hold them on. BRB

Re: Hood hinges and springs hardware? Can I find local?
The one panel I could get to has Clutch head screwss holding down the latch. I've got to do some serious weed wacking to get to the shed the others are in.
The bolts that hold the hinges the spriings go on are 5/16 (they take a 1/2 inch wrench) and I think SAE but I broke the head off the one I tried to get out. The heads are thicker than a bolt supply bolt have and it looks like the hinges take the same bolts. I'm not finding any bolts for Chevy except for the shouldered hinge bolts. I'll try to get some PB on the bolts in the cab I have out back and see if I can get one of the bolts out in one piece and then get my jungle trip machette out and hack my way to the shed.

Man, you guys are all too kind. I love this forum.
LMC has a crap picture, but I think you're right. They have an enlarged shoulder on those bolts. |

Re: Hood hinges and springs hardware? Can I find local?
this is the best picture of the hinge bolts I can see:
https://swclassics.com/1947-55-1st-s...olt-kit-6-pcs/ not where I got mine, but probably all come from the same place if you look hard enough. I believe that style of bolt is called a pivot bolt, if you spent the time searching you could probably buy them by the box of 50 from somewhere like mcmaster |

Re: Hood hinges and springs hardware? Can I find local?
A lot of us have suffered through using regular bolts and having the hood not fit worth a hoot. Those missing hinge bolts are probably right there in the box with the missing lower door hinge cover panels that also like to run away and hide.

Re: Hood hinges and springs hardware? Can I find local?
I've normally had better luck with Classic parts when I need a batch of small stuff in a hurry as they ship priority mail .

Re: Hood hinges and springs hardware? Can I find local?
I think I found one in that "box" Mr48 was talking about.
Little more shoulder on there than the ones from the hardware store. Damn. There is a small part of me that want to rosette weld the hinge holes and redrill them, but I will exercise patience.... |

Re: Hood hinges and springs hardware? Can I find local?
getting the hood aligned is a pain at the best of times, I'd try hard to preserve the hardware
