Which paint schemes/colors make the 80's trucks look older?

I have an 87 model that I will have repainted next year. It's in bad need of a new paint job. But I have never liked the original colors.

I was hoping for a paint scheme that makes it look even older. I'm thinking having a white roof is a step in the right direction. Anyway, I was hoping that some of you might have some pictures for a recommendation.

Thank you

Soft metallic & earth tones of the early '70's.

Anything two-tone will be an improvement. Particularly look at ZY5 two-tone configurations.

Do a google search for "chevy squarebody stripe". Most of the image results will be of the 1970's trucks, but there are a few 1980's trucks included in the mix as well. Any of those gaudy stripe packages will instantly date the truck to where you want it.

Probably not what you have in mind but a "Flower Power" scheme would definitely scream 60's. The 67? Chevy PU my dad bought new was single color white and I think it was more flat then the modern super gloss.

Great ideas!

Anyone have a pic of an 80's truck where the roof is white, or a different color than the top half of the truck?

Med Olive is definitely an early 70's color. That's the color I am painting my truck; two tone with white.

Do you happen to have a pic of the color scheme you're referring to?

Maybe 70's colors would do the trick, when it comes to making the truck look a bit older than the 80's.

Here's mine. The roof is the same tan as the lower portion. While it may not scream 70's or older, it's definitely a classic color scheme which is why I bought the truck.

As suggested, earth tones are great 70's color. There are some beautiful browns out there. Don't limit yourself to GM colors. Porsche and Lexus have some great browns. They won't look good with a while roof, but you could pair it with a lighter brown or tan.

Mint greens and pea greens are also 60s/70s colors. Light blues and even mustard/darker yellows also harken back to the same period. These would lend themselves to a white roof or middle section.

Good luck. Personally, I love seeing different colors. It's not that the regular blacks, blues, reds, and white look bad, but why limit yourself?

I'm looking for a classy paint job that looks great. I don't really want to be the tester for something that turns out not so great.

Time for me to revisit this thread, and I was looking for your ZY5 recommendation. Sounds like a paint code but I'm having a bit of trouble coming up with exactly what you're talking about.

Do you happen to have an image of a truck painted in the ZY5 paint? Thanks!

That's the order code for a appearance package I believe that gives the two tone more than the normal stripe. It could be ordered in different colors like red\green\blue etc then you added that package.

Use white as the 2 tone color that is a 70's thing. Most 80's trucks used silver.

I think there was a lot 81-82 trucks that used white two tone
Those years with the white two tone always look older, to me anyway
One of the reasons the 81-82 trucks are my favorite of the 80's squares. To each there own of course!

The white stripe always reminds me of older trucks.

Same here, along with the white roof. Or at least, the roof is a different color than the color that's right below it.

Maybe there's a way to get the stripe down the middle, and have the roof be the same color as the stripe. I don't think you see that very often though.
