door question, rubber isolated wedge thing??

what does this thing do that is bolted to the door jam, I see it goes into the body door jam but whats its for??

What year? Do you have a photo? If you are talking about a 60-63 it keeps your door latched. I have heard that if you remove it there is no pressure against the latch and the door opens.

It also helps locate the door position when closed. If yours is extremely worn out, you may notice the rear of the door sitting lower than the front
