I'm glad it's basically done. It looks fantastic and was fun to watch.

Thanks Dale. I've got some restored caps for it, but I really like the no cap look right now. That is how it came. The caps were a SPID add. My disposition for the time being is to wait for a nice chrome NOS set to emerge. Once I scuff the rims with caps...they're scuffed and the caps are on for good.

Also, after we've made the rounds showing it (maybe a year or so)...I am going to swap out the bench for buckets and a console. The repro foam on the bench is a tough driving position. I like the buckets better.

And Pete has taught me that you're never really done. There are a few pieces that I am keeping my eyes peeled for nice NOS versions. I never came up with a steering wheel that suited me...nor mirror heads, nor voltage regulator. Right now those are repro versions.

As we show it or tinker with it, I'll throw pics of that progress up here.

I understand about the caps. I like the look without them too. But I scuffed the nubs so now "Blue " wears caps..lol

I understand your frustration with some of these vendors. I have dealt with some very difficult and somewhat shady vendors when buying parts for the Blazer. Hopefully you can find another pair.

Re: 1970 K20 Z62 Full Restoration

Would you be able to point me in the right direction for good under the hodd documentation? Currently rebuilding the 350 out of my 72 Cheyenne K10. Good pictures would really help to put things back into their original locations with proper hardware and such. My truck had been messed with enough from the previous owner it was nowhere near original. Thanks

Honestly, I think there are a fair few good pics with detail in this thread. One of the main reasons I did it was to document factory marks. Is there something in particular you're looking for? If you want something more 72 specific, here's an awesome build thread that is factory faithful: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=708547

Here's another killer factory K10 in your own state: https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=755797

You can PM me and I'm happy to share my cell and any pics you like. The biggest differences from this 1970 K20 and your 72 K10 would be the oil fill neck, the oil fill cap, the brake booster and MC, the PS brackets, the underhood decals (fender, valve cover and core support). The valve covers themselves, and the battery cables. Some things can vary sometimes from plant to plant even within a model year. Especially hardware.

Speaking of...here's another outstanding build thread:

https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=730025

He also has a hardware/assembly guide that you can purchase for a nominal fee that is fantastic.

99% of what you want to know is on this site. You just may have to spend the time to search it.

Let me know how I can help.

Re: 1970 K20 Z62 Full Restoration

A few last minute items before heading to the C10 Nationals in Nashville. I was able to get my hands on an NOS set of caps. Eric got the undercoating done. He also whipped up a D-ring bracket that we bolted to the rear axle U-bolts. Between the powder coated tow hooks in front and these in the back, it made for an easy mark free tie down.

We loaded up and left early Thursday morning.

Re: 1970 K20 Z62 Full Restoration

Joesjunk made the trip down from Missouri and brought his 10K original mile '71 K20. Joe and that truck have been so helpful to us in our effort to get our truck factory correct. I was so grateful that he made the trip and it was so much fun to get to see them together.

It was also a blast to get to see so many Board members in person. Getter-Done, 72 tigger, Chevyland, and Louisvillekytruck all turned up.

It was also fun to talk to so many non Board members about these trucks, who were working on projects and had questions. It was nice to say...you know what you should do, go to this website...somebody has probably already answered any question that you might have. And if not, somebody there will be happy to try.

Re: 1970 K20 Z62 Full Restoration

Out of 1400 trucks, we were fortunate I guess to snag an award. But it was for "Best Lifted Truck".

Now...if you are on this thread you know this truck is anything but lifted. It is painfully stock. I can only imagine what it takes to put on an event like this. They said from the stage they flew in four judges. 1400 trucks seems like a big meal for so few. I don't know. But that does seem like a big time judging miss. (I feel bad for the "Lifted" runner up).

I do understand the the vast majority of the hobby is LSes in the weeds. And I don't begrudge that. And maybe we've reached a moment where if it's not on the ground a judge assumes you've jacked it up.

There were almost 100 trophies given out in all manner of categories, but nothing really close to a "stock" category. I guess I'm saying it doesn't feel like we fit in at that show. But I don't know another one where we would.

What I do know is the real friends I've made on here know the differences and the details and being able to talk and learn about the minutia of these trucks with you are the only "weeds" I want to get into.

Truck is amazing for sure. So what are your plans with it? Did you make it for a show piece only, or will you put some miles on it down the road?

Would love to see Joes and your truck in person.

Quite the pair of pickups. Congratulations on the win! Despite the category the recognition is well deserved.

Thanks! The plan is to show it for a bit with limited miles. Then I'm going to swap the bench for buckets and console and run it enough to keep it healthy.

Thumbs up Re: 1970 K20 Z62 Full Restoration

The ride height appears consistent to the original 1971 truck next to it. Oh well, it's an award nonetheless. Great looking as always.

Good to have met you.
That is defiantly an award winning truck.

Your's and Joe's truck side by side IMHO was the center of the show.

You boys are kind...but the pleasure was all mine. Great to see my internet friends in person. Outside of nasty sunburn, I had a blast. (And the creeper was a must IMO. Both trucks are better on the bottom).
