1967 C10 master. Drum/drum. Front port goes to FRONT wheels (unlike later 70s-80s-90s masters). No proportioning valve.

There's always a chance that the new master cylinder is defective, right out of the box.

Re: master cylinder on my 1964 chevy panel

MC is from a 69 chevy truck, with drum brakes, new from the box, when I bench bled it , it felt good, installed, hooked all lines up, added fluid, power bled ,still no brakes

Re: master cylinder on my 1964 chevy panel

I understand that, auto store only had one, and if that is true, I was told that it would be 2 -3 weeks before they would have a new one, so what of anything can I do to try to see if the new MC is defective?

Can you tell if the rod from the pedal is making proper contact to the MC?

Re: master cylinder on my 1964 chevy panel

at first I used the brake rod that as in my panel, then I found that the rod was not moving the piston, I extended it to make full contact, so I thought that might be the problem, still no pressure on peddle, so, I hear the wheel cylinders making noise, so next, I am going to see if the brakes need adjusting, will let every one know what I find

Undo the hard line that goes into the rubber above the axle. Mine blocked when bleeding. Doesn't replicate your symptoms, however, mine gave high hard pedal after blocking.

Re: master cylinder on my 1964 chevy panel

Ok here is what I found, checked all fittings, then I went to rear, I tried to adjust the driver side wheel, I could not get it to tighten, so I blocked the line to that wheel, went and checked to see and I had full pedal, so now I will take the rear driver side to see if the wheel cylinder is no working, have to wait until after the first to tear into it, will let you know what I find,.
Thanks for your help

Well found out why no brakes to rear, today I removed axle and then the hub assembly , to find wheel cylinder had leaked, and also no brake lineings on the brake, also the hubs were scored, will see if I can find some place to turn them, will let you know how that goes.
