Altman Easy Latch and Door Adjustment
So I installed the Altman Easy Latch and was really pleased with how it came out. I have fiddled with the door and just cannot get it to line-up with the cab.
The door is a reproduction door, so I know there will be some 'anomalies' in how it fits, but I want to get it as close as possible. I will say, I temporarily installed the door seal (slip-on type) to see what effect it has. I can get the door in square, but the door from about 6 inches below the gas cap up to the drip rail is about 1/8" - 3/16" proud of the cab along the door seam. Being a repop door, I know that the fit isn't going to be perfect, but I would like to get it as good as I can get it. Is this something I am just going to have to live with? The truck by no means was assembled with precision...there are several build mistakes that I have corrected, but a couple I have not due to the complexity of the repair. I have just decided to leave those. Any ideas/thoughts are welcome. Here are some pics of what I have: |

Re: Altman Easy Latch and Door Adjustment
I have the altman latches and one repop door. Mine also fit like yours near the gas filler. Everywhere else was good. With a lot of work it was able to be adjusted and massaged to fit better during paint and body.
My doors do not close and open as effortlessly as I had hoped. Still slamming them and they are hard to open from the inside. It has gotten better as the seals broke in but still not what I had hoped for. If you find a fix let me know.

Did you get them fixed so you don't have to slam?

Re: Altman Easy Latch and Door Adjustment
In case anyone is reading this in the future.
I’ve added these to my blazer and had to get the brackets as tight against the door as possible to close the gap the OP has above. I have maybe a 16th” or less stick out on the passenger side but the door is a little off on the contour of the body. (Needs a little body work) Im having to adjust my door on the driver side so not done yet. The bracket on the driver door fit the contour perfectly. The passenger not so much. It needed a little work. The passenger door closes very easily but I have old seals.

Re: Altman Easy Latch and Door Adjustment
Did you need to adjust the latches more? I have mine adjusted to the max to line up. Honestly I think it a bit of a design flaw. If I have the same issue you do I think they should design the strike plate to move the latch in toward the vehicle more. Maybe an 1/8”. I have the striker shoved as far as it will go.

Re: Altman Easy Latch and Door Adjustment
Similar experience here. 71 Blazer, aftermarket doors, rebuilt stock hinges, aftermarket bedsides, new precision press on seals.
The doors both shut and latch fine now on both sides. Had to do some trimming on both driver and pass side Altman door parts similar to the work done in this video (start at ~6 min mark until 7:15) Still need to do minor adjustment to the door and like seen in this video - have not yet had the chance to get back to it though as the truck is in storage for the winter now. |
