72 two tone help
The truck is solid white now, but I'm trying to figure out how paint would have looked like. From the SPID: Z84 Cheyenne, B85 upper molding, and 461 White/Med Red/White. Conventional was roof only, so is this deluxe or special?

Re: 72 two tone help
that's Deluxe two tone. "Special" is literally custom/special paint color

Re: 72 two tone help
The "Special Two Tone" scheme asked about in OP's 1st post is the terminology for the 69-70 only two-tone scheme with white on roof and below belt line - it's denoted on the SPID by a 3 digit code like any other paint code (586 for a white/black/white special two tone paint scheme, for example) - this is different from a "Special Paint" RPO description on a SPID, which, as noted, could be any non-standard color. (agree OP's is Deluxe as all have noted).

Re: 72 two tone help
Thanks for the replies, it just made me question when the SPID listed
White/Med Red/White and as deluxe it should actually be White/Med Red/White/Med Red but I'm guessing that wouldn't fit? However, I've seen other SPIDs like the one below that does list all four. It makes me wonder if it was simply up to the person typing them in on the SPID if they tried to abbreviate or not, or if there was a standard procedure. In the photo included here, the last Ochre only got an O due to lack of space. |

Re: 72 two tone help
The variations in text are kinda funny. Some were smarter at contractions than others

Out of Fremont. "Turbo Hydra-Matuc
Got the same abbreviations as above for the paint, except it's "Hug Org".

Re: 72 two tone help
exactly. it's why we see many incarnations of the options, regulalry AMP/Oil/Temp when there is no "P" in Ammeter, but others show the correct naming without the "P". the other rather common'ish error is Cheyenne Super SPORT, or at times where they have Cheyenne and Custom Sport Truck on the same lable, or included items such as upper/belt molding on a Cheyenne Super when it was including in the package.

Re: 72 two tone help
I always assumed the SPID was compiled from a deck of punch cards, so the data entry person who punched the cards would have typed in the "human readable" text descriptions
