Header and exhaust advice needed
I'm putting headers back on my 1977 K10 that has a SBC 400. I had a set of new swap meet Hookers on it before, but the pass side hit the leaf spring shackle, so I put the stock manifolds back on. I want to buy Hedmans 69830, but before I do, I'd like to know if they are going to fit any better than the previous ones. Does anyone have a set on their K10? I'm also wanting to buy a header back exhaust system for the same truck, and I see there are only a few choices. Ant recommendations on a system?

Re: Header and exhaust advice needed
How badly did the Hookers hit the spring? (asking as I'm looking at a set for my 87 V20 small block). Can they be "convinced" with a hammer whack or two?

Re: Header and exhaust advice needed
I probably could've adjusted them with a big bar, hammer etc.. but I'd like to find ones that fit like they're supposed to. I bet the Hookers I took off were for a different year truck, not sure, so I sold them cheap.

Re: Header and exhaust advice needed
I put a set of Hooker Competition headers and a Hooker header back dual exhaust on a 1977 K20 with a 400 - everything fit great, no clearance issues and nothing to "fit with a hammer". That was the third square body SBC with Hooker Compaction headers I had done, and they all fit without an issue!

Yes, I've used Hookers in the past on several cars/trucks with no issues, just this last set hit the shackle. I'm guessing they were the wrong ones for my truck. Just got a trade offer on my truck, so may not need any headers after all.

Re: Header and exhaust advice needed
when the pipes are welded to the head flange, one degree off in the jig can cause the collector end to move ~an inch.
On one of my builds, Header off an working on a bench. Using a cut off wheel, i took one pass cutting the all four header tube underneath. (thin wheel ~80 grit) This left a 1/16 gap. with the flange secured i pushed the gap closed and welded the cut. 20 minutes max and it moved the collector off my shackel by ~3/4". Chris |

I installed Hedman Street Headers 69230 on my 89 v2500. Fit great. I am not sure of the frame differences in our trucks but below is the link to my build, Page 2 has a picture of the headers and how they hang on the block. https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...=696544&page=2 |
