I see there is a wire holding it to the building, but a metal bracket near the top like this, would be a better support and hold it vertical. With your overhang, you would need to extend the support bars some.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Couple of weeks ago I bought my 1998 XJ back from the guy who I sold it too . He bought a newer car . Said the heat quit on him . I flushed the system mostly the heater core and put a new thermostat in as it never would get to operating temperature. Works great now and I bought some Coverland seat covers they fit fairly well I need to add some foam because the original foam is gone in spots my guess they are generic and fit multiple vehicles . But they are much better than the cloth covers that were in it .

Hey I appreciate that you guys.

Having the chimney installed by a professional but that won't be for a couple weeks, in the meantime I'm running electric heat only and hopefully the power won't go out between now and then.

ETA: That seat looks good!

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Spent about three hours splitting wood with my hydraulic splitter. First time spitting since replaced the 5 horse Briggs that seized with a 6.5 horse Harbor Freight engine. Ran it about 3/4 throttle for splitting for the break in period on new engine. Ran fine, no problems, now tomorrow I need to move all the split wood into the wood shed. Winter's on it's way at some point I'm sure.

Was able to turn the heater off in the shop today . Nice and sunny so it warmed up nicely. Fresh concrete and torpedo heater really makes for moist air .

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

today i decided it was going to be the day to bush hog an overgrown blueberry field we have here.i got some advice on what to do with this mess from a commercial blueberry harvester since i figured it was blueberries before,it should be blueberries again?anyway a few quality hours of tractor time and then running over it all with the lawn tractor with the blades as far down as they'd go as this was part of the advice i'd received.by hook or by crook,i'll have blueberries or alot more grass to mow?

Actually it was yesterday, we brought this back from the dyno to tear down and figure out why it was fouling the plugs with oil.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

After the second pull we removed the plugs and checked them and found all 8 were covered in oil. The machinist who owns the shop said the most likely cause was that the 2nd ring was installed upside-down. We took the heads off and the oil pan so we could remove two pistons. We found that the rings were installed correctly! Yay! But that meant the oil build up in the combustion chamber problem was still a mystery.

We ran the block and parts back out to the machine shop and after inspection and some discussion we decided to have the block re-honed and a new set of rings installed. The 1st and 2nd rings looked good but the oil ring set is pretty low tension (10 lb) so we will be replacing those with 15 lb oil rings. The fact that one cylinder also showed a bunch of light scraping helped make the decision to re-hone easier.

The other thing that the dyno operator said was he felt the spark seemed narrow and weak. Which seemed to hold true as the plugs didn't look like they had gotten hot at all after 15 minutes breaking in on the dyno. We will have to look into that further.

The ring package selection and honing was done at a different machine shop that has a good reputation for building old school Hemi's and the package may be more race oriented than was needed for this engine.

The upside even with the oiling issue we made 505 lbft of torque at 4200 RPM.

But no smoking gun at present.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Trying to figure out a weird issue...

So my Blazer sat w/ Painter for entirely too long...

Repoed her last November, and we parted ways...

FYI - Everything on this build has just 1500 mi...

Drained all the gas, removed injectors and had
them ultrasonic cleaned, and flow tested. Took
off the rails and cleaned them out as well. Also
replaced external fuel pump which was dead. I
also replaced battery which was new before. It
started and ran decent, took out for a road trip,
& about 90 minutes in she stumbled. Was able
to limp it home, getting worse along the way. It
just got a new fuel filter & is ready to try again.
(Yes, should have replaced that earlier, my bad)

FYI - Right before I had the issue, hit bad bump
in the road and the rear bottomed out real hard.

Couple few things I want to ask, if this problem
decides to reoccur, what would you look at next?

Could the fuel pressure regulator of caused that?
(Again, it ran flawlessly for almost 90 min cruise)

Could the sock in the tank have been collapsing?
(Again, it ran flawlessly for almost 90 min cruise)

Could the tank, which was brand new, rusted that
badly in that time frame that it has rust inside it?

I have a toy drive on 12/6 and it's only 20 miles
each way. That will be the next time she's driven.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

I think I would drop the tank and check sock and inside of tank, Maybe also try and blow air thru lines see is any crud might be in there. Don't know if you can blow compressed air thru electric pump. I could have some trash also.

With the quality of parts these days I would check and verify all the new parts are still operating within specifications. Modern engines can run poorly with similar symptoms whether it's an electrical and/or a fuel issue. It's usually easier to verify that all components are getting the full 12dc they require before diving into the fuel system.

Don't forget to check all the ground wires too!

Good luck!

I agree “the” sets a tone

Suppose to get 8 inches of the white death tomorrow. Got the Chevelle out of the old barn and into the new shop . Think I will be adding 20’ to the length in near future.

A couple 4 post lifts will help with congestion, but they never are big enough...
I had to run 150 ft of extension cords until I got 240/50 amp run under ground to the shed.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Been, slowly, working on cutting out the rust spots...
And fitting new front body mount pieces.
Then the electric motor on my 24 yr old IR compressor burned up. Holy crap !!! Anyone price a REAL electric motor lately ? All the cheap ones have aluminum coil wire and fail quickly when subjected to extended run time, as mine is, with a blast cabinet, so they aren't a consideration. A direct, Baldor, replacement is $1,000, so I bought a complete new IR similar to what I have for $1,200 and returned it the next day. Complete POS, China motor w/aluminum wiring and a pump from India that shook so bad from unbalance that the unit walked across the shop floor and I couldn't read the labels on the mount bracket. Called a local compressor maker, Castair and got a smoking deal on a real Baldor motor with all copper wiring including shipping for $400. It is made for them by Baldor for a single stage compressor they sell, so not a direct fit. It took some time to modify the mount plate on mine to get it bolted down and the pulleys aligned, but it is on there and running. Finally back in business after 5 days.

Have a four post lift at my mom’s place they are nice but have a few downfalls. I’m putting a two post lift in next spring but I was thinking about a four post along with it
