Re: 1965-66 Chevy Custom Camper?
I'm curious. Was there a GMC counterpart in 65-66?

Re: 1965-66 Chevy Custom Camper?
Unfortunately, GMC did things differently in '66. There was the concept of a GMC Camper Cruiser to compete with the Chevy Custom Camper, but the buyer had to cherry pick the options from a recommended options list. There was no bundled package of standard items and there was no nameplate. IMO, a bad move, especially when GMC had even more to offer than Chevy.

Re: 1965-66 Chevy Custom Camper?
Found this pair of emblems many decades ago at a swap meet, always wondered what they were from. Never seen any actually on a truck.
Backed my camper into a tree a few years ago and used one to cover the resulting hole

Re: 1965-66 Chevy Custom Camper?
Interesting to see. I have a Canadian GMC 920, complete with coil springs. There's always something different to talk about. The non-original 250 is a little underwhelming.

Re: 1965-66 Chevy Custom Camper?
Camper Cruiser emblems for GMC were first used in '67 in the U.S., never seen one on a '66, but, not to say, they may have been installed late in the '66 model year. There has not been any conclusive evidence, whether original photos or factory documentation emblems were used on '66 GMC models. The Canadian GMC is basically a Chevy, with GMC clothing, no expert on what was done north of the border.

Re: 1965-66 Chevy Custom Camper?
How long were these emblems used after 67? Were they used in conjunction with a specific set of options in that series of trucks, or was it just suggested options like the 66 brochure you showed?
I would be very interested in seeing the list of suggested options in that 66 brochure if that’s possible Thanks for all the great info. I’m glad to finally find out the story on those emblems I’ve had all these years. Tom

Re: 1965-66 Chevy Custom Camper?
GMC Camper Cruiser emblems were a one year only deal for '67. In '68, GMC adopted the new Custom Camper script emblem above the door handles. The '67 GMC Camper Cruiser was just a heavy duty suspension option just like Chevy, see post #33, you were supposed to order the options you wanted separately from a recommended option list, similar to the '66 chart below. Note 1500= 3/4 ton 2500= 1 ton.

Re: 1965-66 Chevy Custom Camper?
Here is the build sheet from a 66 GMC that has been referenced in another thread about these GMC Camper versions. This truck was equipped with a Turbo 400.

Re: 1965-66 Chevy Custom Camper?
Beautifully optioned '66 GMC, unfortunately, very few were ordered this way. An even rarer bird than any '65 or '66 Chevy Custom Camper. Thanks for posting SPID, they are super rare finds in GMC's as well. The closest photo I could find when these trucks were new, was a top of the line '65 GMC 3/4 ton. The '66 GMC 3/4 ton in a magazine ad was probably spec'd with many of the options on that SPID. Probably the ultimate '66 Custom Camper-Camper Crusier would have been a mix of both Chevy and GMC offerings, but that didn't become reality till a few years later.

Re: 1965-66 Chevy Custom Camper?
This information is from Pete Chronis from the 6066 GMC Forum-
The purpose of the support rods, called "gussets" by GMC were used to eliminate "Cab roar". After customers complained, trucks equipped with automatics were recalled as this was very common on 67-68 V6 equipped light duty trucks. I have seen a 65 GMC with the 2 speed PowrFlow with the gussets as well. Definitely use these with your conversion. This link back to this forum, shows how the support rods are mounted- Automatic adapter support rods pics - 6066 (1960-1966) GMC Truck Club https://6066gmcclub.com/showthread.p...t=support+rods
