Here's my explanation for you in pictures flatten the hinge at the bend (red line) and the door moves out. More of a bend moves the door in. Note how the red dot moves when the angle of the bend is changed. It doesn't take much bend to move it. The red dot indicates the movement in and out. I personally separated the hinge so I could put it in my vise. Then I used a 3 ft pipe wrench to bend mine.
