windows: tint or no tint?

Just wanting to get a quick feel on how yall feel about tinted windows
on our beloved AD trucks?

Me personally think on some trucks it looks good and other not so much. Why I am not sure!

I have a New OLD Stock windshield
that I have toted around for 40 some yrs that is clear and a back window that is original clear.

All my other glass will need replaced.

Thoughts?

Re: windows: tint or no tint?

I've got tinted door and back windows on my'49. They really help when the summer heat here gets to be 90 deg plus.

Doors and rear glass looks good and with you being in Texas, if you are driving this truck on the warm and hot days tints should be a must to help reflect the heat, and protect you and the interior, more so when sitting in the heat baking, and it will help the A/C if you have one.

Re: windows: tint or no tint?

Yes I understand.

The summers here in Texas are brutal and I
plan on driving the truck as much as possible!

I will start shopping for tinted glass, I will need
vent, door and rear window.

Thanks for your input 3drburb!

Re: windows: tint or no tint?

Mild what would be stock tint in the 50's or 60's is fine. That limo black nonsense or copper or other nonsense shades doesn't fly with me unless you have the full meal deal billet wheel, shiny paint billet engine/modern interior thing going on that I don't care for either.

I'm with you on the tinting. My truck has what most would consider too much shiny stuff but I'm going with a light tint. I think they make polarized glass that gives the sun protection without the darkness. The hot chicks need to see my pretty face so they can hunt me down later. I have electric A/C from down under.

I live in Florida. I plan to use tinted glass. It will be a mild tint, not limo tint. Auto City Classics seems to have the best price i have found so far.

Re: windows: tint or no tint?

Just ordered my glass for my 55.1 GMC in a green tint.

I ordered all the pieces minus the windshield (because I did not want the band on top) from AutoCityClassics.

Then got the green tint windshield from Auto Metal Direct. They had the best price/shipping I could find.

Should be here in a week or so.

My SS trim should be arriving next week also, sent it up North to Bob
to put a mirror like shine on it.

YES!!
"limo tint" on ANY CAR OR TRUCK should be illegal! I am so blown away at how many cars today have it, you can't even see the driver to know if he is seeing you! I would be FREAKING if I was on a motorcycle among those cars.

Honestly, it blows my mind that it's legal here, thank goodness it's not everywhere.

Re: windows: tint or no tint?

Back in the late 80's early 90's I worked in a parts house in a town 20 miles from here and guys would come in and buy rolls of limo tint fully intending to double it. First thing I did when I got my BMW 528 was take the tint off the side windows to make it back into an "old mans" BMW. Stock tint is darker than any 50's or 60's car.

Have you seen the limo tinted windshields too? That's just insane. Talk about not being able to see anything. When we have the Midnight Drags at Firebird, I have to have them roll their window down so I can see if they have the proper safety gear on.

Re: windows: tint or no tint?

No aftermarket tint on front doors or windshield is the law in BC.
Limo tint would be just begging to get ticketed. Lighter tint you might get away with but similar to a broken taillight it is an invitation to get pulled over.

A classic truck with light tint, US plates cruising around on a sunny weekend and not otherwise doing anything to attract LEO interest would probably be left alone.

Re: windows: tint or no tint?

I used Auto City grey tinted rear and a clear windshield. Had to custom cut the sides to match, but I like the tint with my look. Green or clear would probably go best on a restored original.

There is the important key. Fits the total look. That tint works with those wheels and the rest of the truck but would not work with wide whites and hubcaps or even with 15 inch chrome reverse wheels. I know some guys probably get tired of me saying it all the time but every part you put on your truck and everything you do to it has to contribute to "the look" that is in the master plan and should not distract from that plan.

Full custom piece. Narrowed a Ford Econoline bumper, wrapped and gapped the ends, added a recess for the tag, and then had it chrome plated. The $199 repop chrome rear bumper was my original plan, but like everything else on the truck, it got out of control

You didn't have to do that when I ran my Caravan at Firebird. LOLOLOL

I couldn't believe the fun time I had with all the employees that day. It put a smile on all your faces. I had everyone asking me what it ran. LOL

3 runs within a half second in the mid 17's and within a half mile per hour at 77 mph.

Awesome work! I dig your truck, looking great!!!!

Yep, every inch! I got a stork rear bumper filler and they have big lump thing on the end, didn't understand that, I cut it off and made the panel from the filler to the fender. Made the tail lights from scratch. Used 50ish license plate lights (forget what they were from) and mounted the plate on the back center instead of hanging off the bed side next to the tailgate.
