Progress. Time for a rear bumper on the 59. Bobbed the rear frame rails and modified and installed the rear bed cross sill plate.

Re: My new Beater 1959 GMC

All back together.

I can not get over the improvement the rear cross sill panel made to the bed of the truck!

Now I can modify the rear bumper brackets and get the rear bumper fitted and installed on the 59.

Re: My new Beater 1959 GMC

Had a fuel delivery problem this morn while we were on our way to our morning walk. No gas in filter after fuel pump and there almost 1/2tank of gas in truck. We walked home grabbed gas and a couple things to help get gas into carb float bowl. Putted the truck home. Will diagnose later today, my 5$ bet is the pump. My 1$ bet is gas tank pick up.
We walked 2.55 miles back to the house. Not the walk we had planned but "all part of the FUN!"

Re: My new Beater 1959 GMC

Diagnosed it it's the pump. Pump was from Napa it's about a year and 1/2 old. Need to find a good replacement. Truck is on side yard until I get it fixed.

Re: My new Beater 1959 GMC

Sat u r d a y...the Napa fuel pump failed and I coast off the freeway down the off-ramp. I was less than 10 min from the show. Called a good buddy he came and rescued me with a trailer. ALL part of the FUN!

The fuel pump has been replaced and truck is back in service!!

Last Saturday was 2 years of the 59 being on the road !! The truck is on its 3rd Napa starter and needed its 3rd Napa fuel pump. I know carry a spare pump until I upgrade. This truck has been an absolute blast to own. I am looking forward to giving the truck some attention and finishing it more...

Re: My new Beater 1959 GMC

I had a similar fuel pump issue this summer. Amazon pump failed on my square body. Upgraded to an Edelbrock pump… that made it 5 miles down the road and that needed to be replaced again! Left stranded twice in one day. They just don’t make anything to last anymore. So annoying

Re: My new Beater 1959 GMC

I had a similar situation with some starters for a mustang I worked on for a buddie's brother. maybe, like, 4 starters in a week. of course the original starter was long gone in their system of core exchanges. after driving to several of their stores to get one still in stock i finally said they had to test the new starter before i left. the new one in the box at the store failed. I went to a starter alternator rebuild place and bought one off their shelf. it's been several years with no problem.

Re: My new Beater 1959 GMC

I really like one of the local Mom & Pop Shop alternator and starter rebuild places. Good pricing, great service and I have yet to have one of their units fail. As long as I bring them an original GM core part, they will rebuild it better than new, I think. Including slip rings if they need rework.

I think they would laugh if I brought them a Chinese core.

I love this build! Well done Sir! I'll be taking some cues from your build for my own truck!
