Maybe it’s all original, or just a radiator cap build!

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
Well, generally alphabetical from top to bottom, and I've seen a sort-of tendency for things to be on one side Vs. the other, but I don't think there is any hard and fast rule, and FWIW, different assembly divisions did things differently. 50 or so years after the fact, it's pretty confusing. I've designed many a product to DoD-MIL-STD. Now, all that stuff in ANSI or ASME, and different in a lot of ways.

You've seen his SPID, right? Do you think he's had enough time to djinn up a new one, age it and take a photo? I agree that you're trolling him. Maybe the wrong word- badgering may be more appropriate. You've acted the same way towards me in the past, so I know the MO.

It's ok for you to be jealous of my truck as I hear they don't have very many nice things in Canada anymore.

I didn't see that on your SPID so it must not be real. It looks great thank you

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
Time to revive this thread.
Just purchased 2 days ago. 4th owner. Previous owner took really good care of it. Was his daily driver and from what I'm told, took many trips from Riverside to Bakersfield. Most of the white interior has been replaced with blue including door panels, dash and carpet. Seat has a cover, but I took part of it off and I did see some plaid, but no white on the edge. Not sure what's going on there. |

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
Sorry, I posted this elsewhere but I just found this thread
I'm not trying to argue I am trying to sort through the confusing amount of information. I thought that if a truck had the plaid seats it would have the word cloth or seat on the SPID. I think a lot of the lore of these trucks dies hard and people assume that the word Highlander or the package meant or included plaid. I think I have the Highlander B package as a special order. Per another post on here "Basically, you could order the package, then negate the savings (or part of it) by replacing an included option with another." Again some searching is telling me that 161310 Avocado” actually represents an interior color/material identifier, not the seat trim code. GM always specified plaid trim codes when plaid was present. 1YG8 + NO plaid trim code = Custom Deluxe Highlander B (vinyl) My truck has the ivory color embossed seat

Can u post a picture of your Spid as we can figure things out easier. Block the last 6 numbers of the serial number if you concerned about someone stealing your VIN. Pictured is my Spid for my non Package Highlander and I have the Avocado Green Plaid and the seat code is 613..

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
To your question, the word 'seat' or 'cloth' isn't something that was required to appear on the SPID. 613 is one of the 4 Highlander Plaid seat trim codes - it is what makes what we often refer to as a Highlander truck a Highlander truck - the presence of Plaid seat trim. Your truck is a Special Promo Package C (YG6=A,YG7=B, YG8=C) and it originally came with the the green/avocado plaid seat (that also had parchment vinyl portions beyond the plaid inserts) as annotated on the SPID (613). If it currently has an ivory (or parchment) all-vinly seat cover with no plaid inserts), it's not original to the truck or has been modified. Some owners replaced the plaid cloth inserts over time as the plaid wore out. Can you post pics of your seat? Sorry, I'm afraid I'm not answering your question sufficiently - don't quite understand what is making you think that you have a B package truck, so hoping to hear more about what you've got and your research, always happy to learn more about these old trucks!

Is the first post in this thread, is pretty clear that you have an avocado highlander That came with an avocado plaid seat On a second note All custom deluxe trucks got cloth inserts (in 72) (Either color coded to match vinyl Or plaid) Vinyl seats only came in Custom or Cheyenne level trucks (in 72) ---I believe the information in this entire thread Will give you more correct information than AI will |

My research on the Highlander package indicated that some of the options could be added or omitted on special orders. The history of my truck says that it was an AZ GMC reps ordered demo truck and could have been ordered with the ivory embossed seat instead of the plaid seat.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
Thanks for elaborating IT Cowboy. Yes, special orders can be placed, and there is usually an "Order #____" in the lower right corner of the SPID to reflect that the truck was a special order. That said, if a special order is placed, the factory built it as the customer requested and also put the RPOs that were actually ordered on the SPID. So, if your truck originally somehow came with a special ordered all-vinyl seat, it would not have had the 613 seat trim code on the SPID, it would have had the actual seat code that was special ordered on the SPID. Put another way, the SPID reflects how the truck was actually built, even for special orders. Can you post a pic of the seat? But I think the bottom line is that someone, perhaps the GMC rep you mentioned, had the seat cover changed at some point - perhaps he had a dealer swap it out right at the beginning, but I would submit that the truck rolled out of the factory with avocado plaid.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?
So they printed the spid wrong ?
What is it you are trying to find out about your truck? What history of the truck are you talking about? Do you have proof of anything about that GMC reps order form ? |
