VIN on transmission matches engine or vehicle, 72 c10 465.

I have a 1972 Chevy C10.
307 4 spd SM465

Typically can I find numbers stamped on my sm465 that " match" my c10 or it's 307?

Thank you.

Short version is no. The VINs were not stamped on engines or trans. The best you can do is build dates and engine codes on block pad in front of right head.

So there is no number somewhere on the sm465 that distinguishes it as belonging to a specific truck?

That is correct, the only number stamped on the SM465 is the unit number on the rear of the case near the output shaft. This number identifies which factory it was produced it and the date but nothing ties that transmission directly to the VIN of the truck.
