great looking truck! that's by far the most bizarre color in the line. your picture definitely looks dark blue as soo many others look far closer to the medium/hawaiian blue. Yes, it's hard to find pix of colors looking as "dark" as yours...I just don't get it. thanks for posting

(I've only seen one in-person of your color)

Thanks,
I pretty much like every color in the lineup for 72
The dark blue definitely gives a contrast to the interior

Eric - those are two beautiful trucks. Those two blues are my favorite colors in these trucks and the 558 two tone is tops in my book.

Now you're talkin Eric! Love that 557.. still waiting to re-do mine, will get around to it someday Somewhere along the way I got distracted by my other project (and I use the term loosely) with its oddball 576 paint, what's left of it anyway. But I have to admit, my favorite paint combo for a 72 is 558 - and yours is a stunner, always one of my favorites - especially with the big block & buckets. But I'm a sucker for any of the custom two-tones. And your 557 Super that was ordered with PA1s, I'd submit there's not another one on the planet ordered with that combo.

I picked this one up over the summer. K20 with A/C and bucket seats. Notice driving flanges and no lock in/out hubs. Also has a few oddities on the SPID - no interior color mentioned and RPO code ZX3 “Export Procedure =3”.

Nice truck. Odd that the glove box door is black.

I got that truck years ago
Someone had painted the body in medium blue to match the roof
Ended up selling it the exact way I purchased it

This is what it's original colors would have looked like

Very nice truck Kootenay64
I've seen many Supers that had black glove boxes
I'm sure there is some explanation on here, why that is ?

The black glove box door is a GMC thing. There was a discussion here, but I don't know where the thread is. Something about matching the trim color.

Re: Post a real Cheyenne Super only (aka the defiinitive Cheyenne Super thread)!

The black gb door discussion is an old one and not sure it's ever been truly ironed out. They've been spotted on both Cheyenne Supers and Sierra Grandes, and as best as it's ever been deciphered, it seemed to be plant-specific (usually not from Fremont, but much more common from St Louis, for example). It's also been discussed that it could be related to build plant -and- specific interior trim color code - but, again, not sure it was ever resolved, exceptions to the "rules" we've tried to figure out seem to pop up from time to time. Bottom line, some some Cheyenne Supers and some Sierra Grandes had black gb doors (original to the truck) and some didn't. Here's one of the many threads on the black gb doors on Supers/Grandes.

GMC did have the GMC-only thing for a couple years on trim levels below the Sierra Grande (or perhaps it was in the years before YE9 Sierra Grandes were made, not sure) wherein they'd paint the gb door to match the non-black color of the instrument bezel - I always thought it looked pretty nice - (usually) a nice contrast to the interior paint color.

That must have been what I was thinking, with the GMCs. I didn't remember about some Chevies getting that treatment as well.

I’m a bit surprised to see the painted D29 mirrors on a Sierra Grande, I thought they would have been DG4s

Re: Post a real Cheyenne Super only (aka the defiinitive Cheyenne Super thread)!

Agree that's a little odd, seems most folks opted to pay a little more to get the stainless below eyelines or stainless camper mirrors on these higher trim level trucks. But the buyer had to choose and pay extra if they wanted anything beyond the small rectangular bright mirror, which was standard on all trim levels.

I'm glad someone also painted my truck medium blue because not really feeling that color combo.
