Re: Would a new fan and clutch improve my cooling?

If you don't already have a stud kit installed, I hear it's worth having. Makes it easier to install the clutch than fumbling with bolts. Wish I would have known about studs before my bolt-fumbling episodes.

Thank you, I ordered studs about 1 inch I hope they fit or else I have a hardware store close. Now, nylock bolts or lock washers?

If you ordered a Hayden clutch it will have lock washers in the package . I use lock washers and a bit of blue lock tight .

Also you may need a spacer or bushing that centers the clutch on the pump. Most pump shafts are 5/8th inch in diameter while the clutch is 3/4 inch diameter. So the bushing is critical.

My experience is that they don't come with the pump or the clutch however my local hardware store had one, in bronze, for 3.50$

Just a question in regards to cooling. Is the "water wetter" liquid canned stuff snake oil or does it help when added to coolant?

I don't think it is snake oil but it isn't a magic solution. It is mainly for race engines and using distilled water instead of coolant. It does supposedly coat the inside of the cooling channels and make coolant flow better. It cannot hurt from what I understand but it isn't a magic elixir either.

We owned a Miata several years ago. Rather small 'grill' opening and it would sometimes run a bit warm in hot weather with A/C on. I tried Water Wetter.
Didn't make enough difference to notice. Might work better in a different vehicle though.

Definitely not snake oil. It's surfactants and rust inhibitors, so a no-brainer additive for running water(where glycols are prohibited mostly)

Coolant already has these additives, so whether more of them will improve your cooling system's performance would depend on how much is already there. I don't know how I'd get that information, nor what the magic mix is for coolant proportions

Red Line claims it will improve heat transfer for glycol systems as well, some people claim they've seen it happen.

As said water wetter is primarily used on race tracks where glycol is prohibited. It is not mixed 50/50. More water is used bettering cooling performance. Note that the product has no anti freeze properties for those in cold climates.

I’ve always gotten the bushing with the clutch fan ,not with a water pump though

Re: Would a new fan and clutch improve my cooling?

I installed a HD clutch and fan last evening and the clutch came with the centering bushing. It took me about and hour to do and I am old and was bending over the front to try and reach it. The toughest part was taking the old fan bolts out. I used new studs for the new one and it made it so much easier. The new 7 fin fan really moves some air and creates a new small hurricane under the hood and a lot of air blowing across the motor. Oh, the new clutch and fan slipped right in the rad and then straight back on the studs. A 19 in would have fit but the diff in air flow would be small. The 7 fin is a HUGE leap towards coolness
