You have the wrong size AN tube adaptor if the ferrel is loose enough to go over the flare on the end of the factory line. It should slide on with only a few thousandths to spare between the ferrel and the unflared line. You should have to cut the flare from the end of the line before you even think about putting the fitting together. I’ll put it this way, When installing the ferrel on the line you would have trouble forcing the ferrel over any paint or dirt on the line, it should just barely slide on a clean freshly prepared line.
