Propane to Gasoline conversion?
Hi, I have just baught a 69 chevy fleetside shortbox pickup it has a 403 Olds in it, but it is currently on propane. I was just wondering how hard it would be to make the coversion to gasoline. And if someone has done it before that knows any shortcuts or anything like that. thanks

BAH why switch to gasoline!!!! propane is a nicer fuel i think and i've been working on converting my vehicle to propane. In the switch you'd need nothing other than a new carb, fuel pump and gas tank. just gotta take off the mixer, evaporator, lines and propane tank.
If you want some good reasons to keep that propane setup i can let you know and if you want it gone tell me what parts you've got and what size tank etc etc and maybe we'll be able to work something out.

More than likely they did a simple conversion, which means all you need is a gas tank, fuel pump, and the carb of your choice and you are in buiness. It is possible they raised the compression to take advantage of propanes higher octane, if this is the case the motor would need to come apart for lower compression pistons. You could probably tell by doing a compression test.

Good point 68, there are simple things for doing a dual fuel and you've already got the propane setup, i think for dual fuel you need a part for the mixer (possibly a new mixer if it cant do it) and a fuel pump, switch and gas tank. For the most part though you should be able to get propane cheaper than gas i'd think and your engine will run longer on it.

I even have the dual fuel spark control so you can have the engine time properly for both fuels

Well I have come to the conclusion just to by a new motor and tranny with gasoline already on it. I found a good deal on it so I think i am goin to rip the motor out with the propane left on it, so if anyone wants a strong 403 olds with propane settup including the tank lines evapoator ect, and tranny let me know! thanks for the info guys
