How Much Air through Defrost Vents - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

When I drove my truck a few months ago, for the first time after parking it for the winter, it seemed as if there was not very much air coming through the defrost vents. It was a warm, rainy night and the windows fogged up pretty good - even with the fan on high.

With the air is set on defrost, there is still a fair amount of air coming through the a/c vents and the floor outlet (not as much as the "heat" setting, but still quite a bit).

I haven't had too much difficulty with it since (haven't driven in the rain I suppose). But I thought I should look into it before winter comes. So I tore into my dash to see if I could find anything obvious (i.e. loose vaccuum hose, etc.), but all seemed normal.

So, how much air is normal? Should I not expect most of the air to come out of the top in "defrost" mode?

Thanks for the info Buddy.

By the looks of things, I'd say this is a pretty common problem. I'll have to take a look at mine as soon as I get a few minutes of "down-time". I had it all apart about 2 years ago to replace the heater core. Nothing was broken then, but that's a while ago.

I took a quick look (that's all it took) and found the dreaded broken plastic piece. I'll try and post a picture of it, but I never seem to have luck with photos. Here goes....

Well, I just spoke to a couple of local dealers and was told - - -"discontinued" . So, I guess I will have to become fabricator-extraordinaire.

I forgot about that, I actually bought 5 or six when mine broke, let me see if I can find them and I can stick one in the mail if that helps?

Sorry to cause all this confusion Guys. And especially for scaring all you "older" guys

My intent in starting a new post was innocent enough. I just thought that those people who had initially read (and subsequently lost interest in) this original post, may find the repair interesting. I never meant no harm - - honest. Please don't ban me....

Actually thanks for the interest. I always like when I can come up with an idea that other people find helpful. Makes me feel like I'm doing my small part to save the world.

In case anyone is interested, I posted a brief description (or at least the tools/methods used on the other post.
