Wiper switch question

I'm trying to acquire the parts needed for the vacuum wiper switch for my '51. Yeah, I know, get electric wipers. But I'm feeling nostalgic, what can I say. I've purchased the knob, the control rod between switch and vacuum motor and the grommets for each end of the rod but I haven't been able to find the switch assembly itself as seen in the pic below from the 54 manual. The most necessary part. Does anyone know if it's available aftermarket? Maybe there's a workaround. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Wiper switch question

nvrdone could I ask you to share a link to one of those sites. I've looked and I don't see any switches. Knobs and control arms yes. I'm not the best searcher.

Re: Wiper switch question

Chevs of the 40's has the maroon replacement knob, the rod and the gromets .

If you need the piece that goes through the dash, I have plenty of those that I will never use on cabs I have. I can just pull one off and pack it up and send it to you as they have no value to me. I fought with vacuum wipers for too many years and never seeing another one wouldn't hurt my feelings a bit.

Yup, that's what I need. This is the second time you've helped me out with unobtainium parts Robert. I have your address and will send you some postage money. Thanks so much.

Re: Wiper switch question

I'll get it off in the morning weather permitting. The orange 51 cab doesn't have gauges in it so it should be pretty simple.

Re: Wiper switch question

I have to go down and see if I can get the one out of the other cab as it looks like they cross threaded this one when they installed it originally. It was a real fight to get it and I don't think it will be usable plus I marked up the bezel with the vice grips.

I'm sorry this is requiring such effort but I really do appreciate what you're doing for me. It helps me out so much.

Re: Wiper switch question

The rain finally stopped and I got down to the other cab today. This one should come out a lot easier.

Luckily for me someone had taken the speedometer out. The wiper motor is even still in place. When I was getting up on the trailer the cab is sitting on I noticed the windshield washer squirters that I had never noticed before and then when I got in the cab I saw the radio delete plate and the visor. I knew it was a column shift rig though.

The nut turns easy but not finger easy and I would have it out with a photo but the battery in my light died on me and I couldn't find my phone charger cable in the HHR to charge it a bit while I fought with the power steering hose on the F 250.

Re: Wiper switch question

Anytime you even touch one of these old trucks it turns into an adventure. Radio delete plate? Hmm....I hate to ask, but I have no shame. Is it available asks the needy?

Re: Wiper switch question

The radio delete plate isn't available at the moment as that is the cab I am figuring on putting on the chassis my chopped cab sits on right now. I'd probably be driving it around now except for bunging myself up and not being able to do much for a while .

A friend gave me the cab and it is a long way from perfect but mostly needs a lot of hours with my Eastwood contour and some dents knocked out. I'll probably throw a ring and bearing kit in a 350 I have rather than put the 292 in it though.

Re: Wiper switch question

I got it out and got it sent this afternoon but there are some marks from the plyers that I had to hold it with to take the nut off even though I had three layers of tape on it.

I left the home made wire on it.

I will pm the tracking number in a minute.
