You may not need an adapater. My edelbrock 600 carb's base is enlarged (I guess that's how you describe it) to cover the spread bore areas so they don't leak. NOt sure if that is for all edelbrocks, but that's what it said about mine. I do use the block plate like you have shown, since I have a spacer and was not sure it would cover up completely like the carb did.
