I like the color combo too. It even looks good in epoxy!

Re: 65 Fairlane pro-touring build
Doors and trunk lid are in high build primer and ready for final blocking prior to paint. Fenders are partially skim coated and blocked, and the hood is nearly ready for another couple of coats of primer. He ended up reshaping the scoop slightly to enhance the ridge that goes down the center. I think it will look much better that way. He's been working on it pretty steadily. He plans to get on the quarter panels next week which should be a test of his patience. The existing lines are pretty good, but I know they need a lot of work before they're ready for prime time.

Nice, it might come home soon. Doesn't seem like paint prison...

After skim coating and sanding, he plans to bury everything in high build primer and let it cure good. Then final blocking with 320 and it will be ready for sealer, paint and clear. Doesn't sound like all that much when you say it fast, but it's a lot for sure.

Re: 65 Fairlane pro-touring build
What a beautiful day in the neighborhood! 78 degrees which beat the old record by six degrees. Worked a little in the yard since I'm still waiting for Justin to get my instrument bezel in primer. I've been doing some wiring on the engine to lay the groundwork for routing the cables thru the firewall. The Holley harness has about a half dozen plugs that are unused for my application. I was able to hide most of them under the intake. The real issue is the Ti-VCT harness which regulates the timing of the cams. It's a separate harness that plugs into a module separate from the ECU. All these wire bundles have to pass thru the firewall in some way. I have a Haltech bulkhead grommet and an aluminum clamshell piece designed for a Holley harness I can use as a starting point. Once I get the car back, I'll know more.
Trying to keep it as neat as I can, but it's almost impossible to hide everything. I know the high-end shops build all kinds of trick parts to make it look like the car just magically runs without any electronics - but it ain't me, babe. ![]() .

Re: 65 Fairlane pro-touring build
Thanks! Hope to have a lot more to post as the car moves through the paint process and gets back to the barn. Glad you're watching.

Re: 65 Fairlane pro-touring build
Thanks, Scott. You'll have to swing by and see it in person when I get it home. Right now, Justin had to slow down on it a bit to work on other customer vehicles. He has the front clip, doors and trunk in final primer, but the main portion of the body is in epoxy with just a small amount of skim coat and blocking done here and there. With a two-man shop, there's just no way to get 100% of their time.

Re: 65 Fairlane pro-touring build
Still in a holding pattern at the paint palace. My painter had family business to handle and hasn't been back in the shop until recently. He does have the Fairlane up on a two-post lift to (I assume) work on the rocker panels and lower quarters. I've been trying to keep out of his way because every hour I spend at his place jawboning is an hour no work gets done.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I've been doing little odds and ends like painting the steering column and dash bezel. I went ahead and assembled gauges and etc. into the panel so it's pretty much ready to install when the time comes. I found a nice 50th anniversary Challenger online and bought it to have for trips and cruise ins. It needed a few things, so I've been tinkering with it while I'm waiting for the Fairlane to get back home. I'm also trying to get some drywall guys to come out and scrape off the popcorn ceiling in the shop and replace it with knockdown texture. But dang, those guys don't seem to want to call back. I reckon they don't need to mess with a little job like mine when there are apartments and townhomes going up all around here. .

Re: 65 Fairlane pro-touring build
Challenger is cool. I've got a 16 rt with the shaker hood. It's crazy how a mass produced car gets so much attention. Although as big as they are it's hard to miss them.
