Carburator question

Hi all:

Is there any option for reducing my gas mileage, even a little? My rebuilt 327 and Holley carb has GREEAT torque, but it's sucking down gas so fast I can barely get from home to work without a fillup.

I see lots of carbon in my exhaust pipes, and smell fresh gas a lot. I know this could be from the breather, but could also be from a lot of unburnt gas in the carb.

Also PO seems to have removed the choke butterfly from the carb. Would this contribute to low gas mileage?

I heard about a Rochester carb with low-flow primaries and big secondaries that only kick in when you need them? Sounds like a good solution if it's real.

Any help appreciated.

Yes, there is a good chance that carb work or even replacement could improve your gas mileage.

But, first, we need to know which Holley carb you have to be able to speak intelligently about what to do. There should be a "LIST" number on the front side of the carb, right by where the choke butterfly should be. What is it?
