New Big Block, Need Cam help.

I went Monday and picked up all most all of the stuff i will need to build a new 427. I bought a freshly bored block, a steel crank, eagle rods, forged 11.4:1 pistons,Merlin heads, a team G single plane, a BG 850 speed demon. a complete msd ignition, ARP bolts, and moroso oil pan and valve covers. Basically I bought everything except a cam. What kind of cam should I get, and what kind of power should i expect? Thanks for the help

thats the cam i have in my 454 bored to a 460 with the high flow GM iron heads and weiand intake with a Q-jet, with 11.4:1 compression i would up the duration and the lift a little but thats just my .02, and is this for street or strip?

Thanks for the quick reply. This is going in my 63. It will be my saturday night cruiser. So i quess it will be a street/strip motor. I paid 3500 for everything. Did I get ripped? I am new to the world of big blocks. So im sure the knowlede of this board will be priceless.

not at all my friend, is it a tall or normal height deck block? i think the total cost on my engine with reusing the stock valve covers, oil pan, crank and rods, free intake manifold and carb was around 2 or 3 grand so it sounds to be you got a great deal

how can i tell if it is a high deck block? What kind of torque will this boat anchor make?

look at the front of the block, from the raised lip that the timing chain cover bolts onto the block, measure that, i don't remeber the exact numbers, but i do know that it is over 1 inch and on a short deck it will be a fair mount less. and torque, big blocks make tons and tons of tourque, their great for street driving.

also are the heads iron or aluminium(sp?) for iron the 11.4:1 sounds a little high

they are iron, I wish they were aluminum. I think that my CR is not right. that is just what the guy who had these parts told me. I think that the big heads will bring it down (at least i hope). I felt like christmas seeing the bed of my truck filed with boxes of new parts.

for iron heads i could only got to about a 10.25:1 but you may be able to go higher if you keep her cool and use an octane booster, not to shure
