Engine & Tranny Swap ??'s 250/3spd to 305/TH700

Ok, i finally got ahold of a good engine and trans to put in my '79 1/2 ton. I pulled out the dead 250 and 3 spd manual and put in carb 305 with a TH700. My problem now is the drive shaft is too long and the tranny x-member sits forward too far, by about 2 inches.I could have sworn I read here that the combo, like any other V8/TH350 long tail, would be the same and drop right in. It appears, I have a little problem with that lol.

I compared my TH700 to a few other TH350's I have, and everything matched as far as I could see, for length and mounting. Is there a different X-member for a TH400 or something? Or maybe just an extention piece between the trans mount and the crossmember that I need to hit the junkyard for?

The driveshaft isn't a problem to get shortened, but it kinda upset me to say the least that this thing was 2"+ too long. It is a 2 piece DS, and AFAIK these trucks mostly had a 2 piece.

Anyone have a similar situation, some tips, advice, or something, or is the TH400 just putting a wrench in the works? I don't think it would, but who knows. Just my luck lol.
