Gonebad is that stock ride hight? I have read that there should be a 6 degree angle is this correct. I can not figure out if my control arms are wrong or the rear end is wrong. I have a vibration and when I put washers between the rear end and the control arms to change the angle it goes away. I have about a 15 degree angle on mine without the washers but I can not see where the mount have been moved on the rear end. I know that it has a 6 lug with 3.42 gears with posi. Did these trucks come with 3.42 posi. Did the 4X4 have a diffrent angle I am woundering if maybe the rear end came out of a 4X4.

Flip, my bad!!! I missed the part that said stock....Sorry. This truck has 4" drop springs installed. This rearend is a '71 with 3:08 gears installed on a 67 shortbed frame. I don't remember these trucks coming with 3:42 gearing stock but I could be wrong. All of the 4x4's came with leaf suspension in the rear. It may be that someone adapted the rearend out of another truck and didn't weld the perches on at the correct angle.

gonebad is correct on the 3,42...they weren't in trucks untill later.
I kinda wonder if someone did a poor instalation of a later rear axle.

Thats the problem its a 12 bolt and had the shorter 6 lug axles and does not look modified at all. Was there another year that had the 6 lug with the shorter axles. I have been told by more then one person that the angle looked like it was off. does any body know what the Pinion angle should be.

I believe that the angle should be 3 to 5 degrees down angle. Meaning at rest on level surface the pinion should be pointing downward 3 to 5 degrees.
I am sure if thats not right Someone here will set it straight.

Flip66, I'm suprised your having vibrations. I'm using bags out back (which is equal to or more than a 4" drop spring) and 1.5" lowering blocks & don't have any vibration problems.

Mine is really about 20 degrees up. I have tried 2 drive shafts and I get a vibration but when I put washers under the the rear end to change the angle it will go away but it feels like it is putting the drive shaft in a bind. I am thinking the po changed the rear end or the control arms are bent I have looked at some later model trucks most of them thew piion is leval or have very little angle I just have not had a chance to look at any of our years that are not lowered. I have put some washers (about 1.5 inches in the rear mount holes) to change the angle and it just now is about the angle that gonebads is in the picture.

It sounds to me like someone has put a different rear end in your truck and welded the perches at the wrong angle.

If needed, you can buy the new spring pads from ECE and cut your old ones off, set the angle with the new ones, and weld them on.

I noticed tonight that there is some slight play in the yoke that bolt to the pinion. Its not suppose to be that way is it.

If you did you would see it says you should never have a positive pinion angle.
You say yours is 20 degrees up.

Hmmmmm, maybe that is wrong.

70 short I have come to the same conclustion teh more I decrees the angle the less it vibrates. I thing something in thr rear end may be worn out there is some slop in the pinion yoke I don thin thtat is normale either. I noticed that looked at one tonight and it had about 1 degree.

I would rather be working on that rear end big jim
