long bed to short bed

I have a 69 CST longbed truck. I have a shortbed frame and everything and i want to cut apart my longbed and make it into a shortbed. I have seen this done before and I think it is the best option for me right now because of lack of funds. What I need to know is the lengths of the bed in front and behind the wheel. I'm hoping that I only have to cut out in the front of the wheel. If you have any knowledge of this or any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
David

is your truck a fleet side? if so both ends of the box have to be cut if you want it to be proper, i looked into it and found out the the work involved would be very expensive, almost would be better off finding a shortbox. unless that is if you have the skills to do it yourself

If You Have A Regular Long Bed Its 8 Inches At The End Of The Frame The The Frame Has To Be Cut 12 Inches Under The Middle Of The Cab I Think Its A Little Bit After The Entrance For The Transmission Mount You Need To Check Out Sites That Tell You How To Do It

i sort of did this to my truck. I live in the NE and a swb bed is hard to come by, let alone one in decent shape. I had a long bed and bought a short bed frame. I totally dissassembled the bed so that all that was left was the floor. I cut 12" off of the front and 8" off of the back. I then reassembled the bed using swb fleet repop bedsides. all the crossmembers line up, the holes for mounting the bedsides line up, and I had to drill new holes in the floor for the front bed panel. the bed looks perfect and unless looking at my cuts on the floor, one would never be able to tell it used to be a lwb. I bought my bedsides off of Tim Christrian and he gave me a great price

I would keep the Longbed. I sounds like too much work for a truck that is cool anyway. I'm going to (hopefully, if funds allow) rod out my 72 Longbed. My .02.

Then clickie up load files and bam you got pictures ! Good luck man !

As for the long bed to short bed, I was thinking of the same thing, but the cost of getting the work done was more than the short box I got ! I would like to see pictures of the progress if you do cut down the long bed !

good luck !

I think i'm going to try for the practice if anything else. I'm not going to use the bed anyway, so why not. I'll take some pictures as I go, but I might not start on it for a month or so. Also, i'll try and get some pictures up of what it looks like now asap.

I also have a couple earlier short beds lying around, so i'm going to see what they would look like just for the heck of it, i'll try and get some pics and let you decide for yourselves.
