New Process 4 speed
my 67c20 came from the factory w/ a New Process 435 4 speed. glovebox says Heavy Duty 4 Speed. How common are these? Are they really more heavy duty than a sm465
|

I think they are comparable in strength, I like the one in my 69. It seems to have better ratios compared to the 465 in my 79

you might have the close ratio version. in my '69 GMC service manual, there is a wide ratio and a close ratio available

Sorry to burst anyone's bubble here, but these trannies arent worth any more than your usual truck 4 speed. There simply is little to no demand.
Bucket, you were right...the NP435 was a very common 4 speed in older Ford and Dodge pickups.

Boith the 465 and 435 are excellent trans but wont go for much more than a couple hundred bucks, especially 2wd versions. The 4wd versions are in more demand since the Jeepers and other off roaders use them for their strength and especially the 435's lower gearing. I prefer the 465 since it is a little stronger. I still havent found one for sale locally but have seen them for sale for $100 with everything.

i paid 75 bucks for my sm 465, couldnt be happier, i love how much power it gives i can pull our 30 ft travel trailer like it is nothing
