ele. cooling fan
i am thinking about putting a ele. fan in my truck it is a 72 chevy c20 with a 402BB and 400 thm. what brand and size? i am also thinking about a 2 or 3" body lift. chris

hello, I ran a couple of 12 inch fans in my 350 powered Jeep a couple of years back. I ran Flex-a-lite (spelling?) I got from Summit Racing, and they worked great. It provided much more CFM than a single larger fan. Previously I had sever cooling problems with a mechanical fan, and no real fan shroud to speak of. Why do you want body lift in your truck? Do you wheel it? I really hate body lifts, but sometimes you gotta... I heard around here that one ton springs will work in a 67-72, and will give you some lift due to the eye to eye length. I want to swap one ton running gear into my 70 stepside. Anyhow, good luck, hope I have helped a little.

402 BBC? Is that a 396 bored out? I thought the 396 was a big block, and the 402 a small block?

I am running a Flex-a-lite "Black Magic" on my 72 Burb with air conditioning in Arizona. It is a 15" electric fan with an ingrated shroud and thermostat. Pulls 2800cfm. I am also running it on a reduced size all aluminum racing radiator built by a company called Northern. I use a 180 degree thermostat. With the air conditioning on and the outside temperature in the Arizona summer reaching 115 degrees the coolant has never gone over 205 degrees. With the air conditioning off it never goes above 180. I am very pleased with it. It was about 200 bucks.

You may want to check out the junkyards. I have a 94 camaro radiator, condensing coils and fans in mine. It fit almost perfectly...had to move the radiator supports out about a half inch. I would bet the fans would fit well on a stock radiator, and they pull a lot of air.

I have a pair of 14" flex a lites on my longhorn, with Painless wiring controls. The fans are mounted on a home made shroud, & do fit very tight on the shroud(12" ers would be easier to fit the size shroud for the rad). the setup works good, 185 on, & 170 off on the controls, & the truck runs tween 170-182 on temp . the rad is a 4 row copper /brass. crazyL

I have Old Air Products fan kit on mine. Works great even better than Clutch fan. Kind of high $295.00 but its a bolt in with adjustable thermostat and relays all wired up and ready to install.
