Question How do I ship a grill surround???

I am (was) planning on putting a 1971/72 grill surroung on ebay but after measuring up the box, I'm over the limit of UPS and the post office by about 4 inches. (length+girth combined)

Anyone ever ship one of these? How do new parts vendors ship a part like this?

Try Fedex. UPS only allows 130" on ground packages unless you send it as an oversize package(usually about doubles the price). Fedex will allow you to ship up to 165".
Do you have a fedex or UPS account at work? That could save you alot even if youy had to reimburse the company.

130" is the oversize maximum. UPSs first oversize mark is 108". They call it OS1 and the larger 130" is OS2.

It is correct that FEDEX has higher limits. You mught try DHL too, new guys are looking for open holes in the big guy's action.

I shipped one last year, you have to make the box as tight as you possibly can. One inch was the difference of around $100 (honestly). I used fedex, the cost was around $20.

I shipped one by UPS for about $16.00. Shipped it from work and it arrived in Texas just fine. Wrapped it in bubble wrap and folded cardboard around it. Some tape and away it went.
Try a business account if you can. They never question anything I send.

you can also sell it with a no shipping clause, being where you are in the northeast there's plenty of people who might come pick-it-up,and if you don't sell on the first go round the relisting fee isn't that much

Thanks for the help guys. Looks like the bubble wrap with cardboard is the way I'll go. There are no Fedex or DHL's near me so I'd like to use UPS.

This will be right at the 130 limit I can tell you that!
