1967 GMC question

Hi Guys,
Tonight on the way home from my Sis's place, on the next street over from her house is a stock white 1967 GMC (small window) lwb fleetside that's been parked out in the street for a LONG time. Well, while driving by looking a the rear axle I noticed it had trailing arms. I thought all GMC trucks from 1963 & up all had leaf springs in the rear. Was trailing arms an option on '67-72 GMC's?

all 63-67 GMC's were available with leaf springs only, beginning in 1968 you could option in coil springs. Sure its not Chevy with front sheetmetal replaced or a early 68 GMC with small back window made just before discontinuing the small back window option, then again GM might have made the coil spring option available in late 67 even though all info shows option not available till 1968, plus back in the 60's-early 70's if you had the money and dealer filled out the special order forms GM would just about build anything you wanted.

Mine is a 69 with no option explaining the coils...seen another just like it, and saw a GMC (can't remember the year) that had leaf springs listed as an option.

I say anything goes.

I have a 67 GMC short fleet with coils. I tossed the original glove box with option decal long ago. It didn't list the coil spring as an option. I also had a 69 GMC short step with coils. No mention of it on the option sheet. I had a 70 GMC short step with leafs. There was no mention of it on the option sheet. It also had a split ( 2 piece) driveshaft. That was the only shortbed I have seen with a 2 piece driveshaft. Anybody else? All of these trucks were built at the Freemont plant.

This is more of a response to the vehicles in your signature - man do you have quite the collection there! I bet your insurance bill is out of this world! I know that insurance rates are different all over the place but for me it costs about $620 (Cdn) for the year.

My 70 GMC SWB is original and has 350/350. Coil springs and 2 piece driveshaft. No mention of springs on the option sheet in the glovebox.

Seems to be no rhyme nor reason.
I will say that I have seen more GMC's than chevy's with leafs....but the number is still pretty small.

I had 72 swb cheyenne with 2 piece drive shaft- I was under the impression that the two piece was standard equipment for everything but I6 trucks.

Harold, think again about the 2 piece-I6 combo. my '68 GNC was factory bare bonz with I6, leafs, 2 piece shaft, & SM435.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replies.
Sounds like they came with both setups from the factory.
Many thanks,
David

Hmmm that was one thing I didn't check, now I'm curious.

I always heard that GMC had leaf, and Chevy had coils, looks like that's not true.
