rearend ID #

can anyone tell me where to find rearend codes. i found 3896839 on the pass side and gm55 on the driver side.

Look on the pass side axle tube about six in. out from punkin. It is stamped on the top toward the front side. The stamping isn't very deep, so you need to wire brush real good. Thisa is for 12 bolt 1/2 ton. John

thanks, there is a web site were you can put in your rpm and tire size and it will give you gear ratio do you know where it is.
