Gas Gauge
When tank is full gauge only registers 1/4. Anyone know what causes? Tank has new sending unit.

Did you try disconnecting the sending unit wire with the ignition on? It should cause the dash gauge to go past full. Grounding the sending unit wire should cause the dash gauge to go to empty.
Also, if you have an ohm meter, check the output of the tank unit. It should read close to 90 ohms when the tank is full. The sending unit output will vary from 0 ohms, (empty) to 90 ohms (full). A bad float can cause the problem you are describing or a binding arm. There is a possibility that the dash gauge is bad, but they usually work. Jim |

If it's a new gauge , My guess would be a pinhole in the float or the arm is gettin stuck and can't rise. .

Check to see if the sender is getting a good ground by connecting a jumper wire from one of the sender screws to a good ground. Had this same problem in an old car I had and this trick cured the problem. Just a thought.
