need some engine swap help

I am putting a 67 pontiac 400 in my 72 gmc shortbed and cannot figure out how to mount it or what mount stands i need. I have the one bolt mounts and they line up to the mount stands that were in the truck, but the engine seems to be sitting to high, at an angle. What do I need to do...I have have exhausted all efforts!!

I would start by going to teh parts store, and looking through the mounts avalible for that engine, and see if you can find something close to the pads chevy uses.Bolt them on the engine, and lower it into the truck, move the frame stands under them and see what you can do to make it fit.

Pics are invaluable in this situation

Obviously you want it sitting level, and pretty low,but there is a ton of clearance between the hood and breather.

hope this helps

Go to the junk uard, and get the frame mounts from a 73 - 87 truck. The Pontiac engine will fit down low in these, but you will need to fab a spacer to go between one mount and the frame mount. Mine had lug nuts, so figure about a 1/2 inch spacer in there.
My one ton had a Pontiac 350 in there when I got it. You'll also need to run the fuel line on the other side of the chassis...I would just redo it from teh tank...it isn't very much work. For the battery, you'll need to moveit to the other side of the engine compartment. You can get the optional Aux battery try which mounts on the driver's side pretty much just like the one in your truck now. You'll need to extend the alt harness most likely, depending on what was in your truck originally.
You do all this, it'll look like the engine belongs there.

I think I will have to get big block frame mounts from a 73 and use the horizontal bolt pontiac motor mounts and it should fit. What do you mean by putting a spacer between one of the mounts??? thanks

The frmae mounts that were in mine had 6 cylinder, and 8 cylinder stamped into them by two sets of holes...so this was a common frame mount.

When the Pontiac motor is sit that low into the frame...to where it looks like it is supposed to be there, the motor mounts won't quite reach these frame mounts. So the P.O. placed lug nuts between the frmae mount and motor mount on one side. This shifted the engine a little to the drivers side, which also made spark plug access easier on the passenger side by the heater box.

If the later mounts are used sitting lower, will there be any problems with the exhaust down between the frame rails?

Yeah, exhaust was fine. The engine's original Y pipe was retained (from the looks of it) and then a pipe welded up to it.
Next time I'm at my computer, I'll see if I can't dig up some horniac pics (longhorn/pontiac...horniac. )
