Fuel pump noisy

The theory behind not letting your fuel tank get lower than 1/4 tank is very true in the longevity of the fuel pump,( especially in tank models )as the fuel is used for cooling as well as lubrication!!! Makes sense too!! The reason that the fuel pump for the 98 truck is more expensive is that the pump is no longer servicable, the pump is now changed as an assy. as the 98 had the sensor on the pump unit to let ya know when you left the fuel cap off (via mil)!!! They are very expensive and if ya change it you are better off to pull bed back instead of dropping the tank!! Hope this helps!!
