Ok here goes. I have a 72 long bed. I belive the cab is not a 72. it has a place to mount the rear mirror on the metal head liner right after the wind shiled, and the throtle pad( yes pad ) dosen't mount to the throtle assembaly, it mount to the floor useing two snap in buttons like the earlier modles. So I look at the vin plate on the drivers door jam to check the rivits ( i would post pics but i am having driver problems atm) and they are more like regular pop rivits( you can see the shank that breaks off leaving the part that expands the walls to hold the rivit in place. I do know that chevy changed the rivits ( ones that do not leave the shank ) but what year. Did our trucks have the rivest like you can buy out of the hard ware store or is that another think I could add to my theory list.


PS. Is there any stamped vin # on the cab besideds the vin plate I described above?

If I remember correctly there is a vin right near the steering box that should match the vin on the door jamb... I think it's the 1st half(maybe last half) that match's not too sure anymore.. Sound's to me like an early cab though...

For the mirror, is there a raised portion in the metal for the mirror mounting...or just a set of holes?


If it is just holes, and the parking brake is foot operated, then it is most likely a 69 or 70.
I think some one said the VIN is stamped directly under the VIN plate...as in, remove it and the number is there.

Oh, just remembered, is there holes in the door jamb that looks like there was another plate?
In 70, they went to a single plate VIN and GVW, before that, they were seperate plates for the VIN and GVW.
That'll tell you if it is a 69 or a 70.

ok, here is what i have got tonight ( midnight ). foot operated E- break. single ID plate and the rear mirror might just had been mouted there. The guy who owned it before the guy i bought it from even put a plyboard console to hold the floor shifter in place and home carpet so who knows what is what with this truck.

Sounds like the cab off a 70 truck to me.
