Question Best way to get it off - question

How does the knob on the automatic and 3 on the tree shift lever come off, or does it. I want to change mine out but don't want to screw it up trying to get it off.

They don't. The black on the ends is molded onto the shaft. You will have to replace the whole shift arm assembly.

I got mine off buy putting the handle and know in hot water and it released the glue holdin the knob on...

what, no air tools involved?! I would use the air cut-off to saw a slit on opposing sides. that way it will pop right off while annoying the hell out of other guys in shop. LOL

I like the way you guys think. A BFH sounds like the plan. Of course I may cheat and slit it with the cut off saw first.

Once it is off I take it that the stem is not threaded. Any one know what maximum thread size it can be threaded to?

It is threaded, but they are more like splines, not like bolt threads.
What you planning on putting on there?

Hey Longhorn Man - Not quite sure yet. Something cool and probably rat-rodish. Mooneyes has some cool shift knobs for standard shifters that I was thinking about adapting. There is also a guy who make custom floor and column shift knobs out of epoxy. Check him out at www.koolknobs.com .

I have also been toying around with making a one-off shift lever out of rolled steel. Nothing to fancy, just my own bends and curves design that would be different than other peoples.

I am not doing a factory restoration on my truck but not a full blown custom either. Just something to make it mine.
