dad blamin stackemrachet dangitdarnit receet - i broke it

Guys, i'm was getting ready to put the transmission on the 350 for the 68 and i had took the clutch fork off with out wanting to and when a friend and me went to put it back on we found it too hard to put back on but then it was too easy to take right back off.
I then looked inside the cup that takes the pivot ball and found the retainer bent, so i took it out and was trying to bend it back in to what looked like an orgional shape, but the 37 year old metal gave way and broke.

I went to the local AutoZone and found nothing and then to O"crappies and they are ordering me the ball b/c they can't find a clutch fork or the retainer so they're hoping to get the retainer w/ the ball.

I said all that to say this: what is the proper way to reinstall the clutch fork on a 67 3spd Tranny? and does anyone have a good 4 or 5 spd close or within a reasonable distance from Memphis, TN? thanks sswj

Try the Chevy dealer, they may be able to get you one. I had to get a new one for my Chevelle and got it from the dealer.

i have a 4spd just south of nashville you can have the whole thing from the flywheel to the shifter for 350.00 it is still in my blazer in working condition.

it is a granny low first, stock set up in a 72 2wd blazer with a 350. i am going to 468/700r4.

sorry meat, but that isn't what i need for this application. It's a 350 bored .060 and i need more gears. thanks for the offer however.

i still need an answer guys to one of the questions: how do you reinstall the clutch for properly?

There's a spring clip [retainer] that fits inside grooves on the cast iron clutch fork. It's either a dealer or LMC-type item. (I forgot who I got mine from, but I bought 3 just so I'd always have a spare.) You use the tips of a needle-nose pliers to set the clip in the grooves. Should click right in. Then line up the clutch fork on the throw-out bearing and have the socket lined up on the pivot ball. A good bop! with a rubber mallet should get it on.
