Dashpad Removal - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'm trying to remove the dashpad from my 69 C-10 pickup.
I removed the 4 screws that are visible from the front.
It seems to want to move a little but something's holding it.
Are there other screws that need to come out?
Does it have clips holding it in place?

My service manual doesn't talk about removing the dashpad
and I don't have an Assembly Manual.

Any help is appreciated!

There are about 8 speed nuts up under the dash that hold the front of dash down. Probably have to remove glove box to get to right ones and easiest if dash bezel is out for left ones.There is one in each of the far corners and Keep in mind there is one lined up with speaker that is hardest to get to. I think they are 3/8 nuts

Good timing with this thread. I've got a dashpad on order and I was also wondering about how to go about removing the old pad.

remove instrument panel and glovebox liner and maybe even radio and ashtray and heater controls even, need all the room you can get, luckily our dashes are basic simple ones., there are 7 studs under dash poking through out of the pad itself, the one on each very tippy tip end are pointing straight forward to front of truck and are a ***** first to remove and then to get out of the dash metal holes to allow you to get the pad up and off dash metal.,

I removed mine a while back to paint the dash. I removed the glove box liner, the ashtray, and the radio - all of these are easy to remove. With these items removed it was fairly easy to get to the speed nuts. The hardest one to reach is the one in the corner of the driver's side. It would be easy if the instrument bezel was out, but I didn't want to go to that much trouble.

When I put the pad back on, I never did get the nut in the driver's corner back on, so I just left it off - I can't tell it makes much difference. If I ever take the instrument bezel out, I'll put the nut back on. I found ignition wrenches worked best, because they are small enough to work in the confined space.

To make the one in the driver side corner easier, remove the headlight switch.

I just remove the glove box and speedometer bezel and can get to all the nuts on mine. (no AC)

I JUST HAD MINE WRAPED IN GRAY TWEED. I MADE SURE I LEFT THE SPEED NUT OUT BUY THE RADIO. THAT WAS THE PAIN IN THE @SS FOR ME

I'd definitely take out the instrument panel, headlight switch, glove box, radio and a/c center bezel if so equipped. These nuts are a bugger, be prepared with lots of bugs bunny bandaids for your knuckles!

While you're at it, you might want to change everything else out that needs changing, its better to do it all at once (windshield wiper, hoses, radio, glove box liner, dash bezel, etc.).
